Yes Trout was and is overrated, he basically got knocked down by Vanes in similiar fashion that Canelo did last night.

Ok, well people can fairly acknowledge that Cotto was kind of gift-wrapped.

Even so, those who OVER-HYPED him are the same slick black boxer lovers who are now flipflopping on him, cuz they are disenfranchised with the loss.

In my opinion, Trout was/is pretty good. Cotto is no pushover at all, even in a somewhat diminished state. He stuck to a gameplan, he didnt try to go past his own limitations, he stuck to a committed jab, and outboxed Alvarez from time to time. Trout admitted in under-estimating Alvarez's ability in the post-fight interview. Honestly, i make him a B+/A- straight boxer.

Alvarez didn't wholesale outclass Trout, like Rigo did to Donaire. And it was almost an even fight in ways. Alvarez was able to make some adjustments, and Trout wasnt counting on that. But thats what you can do if you have diversified boxing skills, and have to do at the top level, exactly what Donaire don't have. Alvarez was able to re-adjust and edge out Trout in performance. The only liability was Alvarez's stamina issues...

Trout not as good as I thought and Canelo better than I thought. Trout didn't circle enough or use enough movement he also has no pop at 154 and his accuracy is horrible.

Trout is a little better than he showed. He fought timid and tentative. Still, Trout is an over achiever. He isn't very atlhetic, and doesn't have power. He was a little over rated. Yes he beat Cotto, but what had Cotto done at 154 besides lose to Trout and Mayweather? Prior to that he was matched carefully at the weight.

Canelo showed much improved headmovement/slickness. I was really impressed with it. Now if I could only get him to not take 2/3rds of a round off damn near every round. If Canelo can get more active, he will develop into a top notch fighter.

See this is the kinda poor mentality that makes opinions like these irrelevant.

People are claiming Trout is overrated now ? Woah. Trout's a solid fight easy top 3 in the division. The guy put up a big fight, gets knocked down, and comes back swinging .. what a ****ing G. Props to Canelo that was a great fight.

Man, I love this forum. I was seeing nothing but "Trout too slick and too black, Canelo doesn't stand a chance" posts. Now that Canelo toppled Trout and made him look like an amateur, the same people are flip-flopping. Canelo is the truth.

Anybody saying Trout is too slick didn't know much about Trout. While he is a decent boxer. His slickness leaves a lot to be desired. It gets him by against C level guys. It couldn't deal with Canelo's handspeed though. It was like Trout wasn't even seeing the punches in there the way he was getting wacked the few times Alvarez let his hands go.

These are the fights that make fighters grown into new levels...

Both of these dudes will come out better then when they came in.

    Good experience for both.

Trout is actually better than I thought, as stupid as that may sound. He will be a problem for anyone in this division. He is a BIG dude. Southpaw who moves well with good stamina. Doesn't have great power though but uses his mind. He's not easy to beat. He will put up a fight.
