I have yet to see the fight, have heard it called contentious judging in a few places, but was shocked to see that (in a recent thread made by gattiwarrior) the majority of scorers that submitted their cards picked Trout as the winner. So please, vote.
Don't worry, I plan to revisit this thread with the sound off so as to not influence myself when I view the fight.
Canelo landed 2 or 3 hard shots in each round and he also did a lot of nothing each round too. From round 6 on Canelo basically fought about 40 seconds of each round.. 2 or 3 hard shots and then retreating shouldn't win you very many rounds. Trout was much busier, pressed the action and at times was walking Alvarez down. Trout kept a jab on Saul and was landing effective body shots. Canelo was swinging wildy and flailing around the ring when he did actually want to fight and not rest. Trout is gonna look at the tape of this fight and get furious at himself for not pressing Canelo more in the 5th or 6th round when he hurt Saul with a body shot and Canelo basically ran..
This fight again displayed the flaws inherent in boxing. The sport is way too subjective. I personally thought Alvarez clearly won a close fight. He showed some good defense, he seemed to be in control, and he definitely landed the cleaner, more effective punches. Trout threw a lot of punches, but very rarely was there much behind them, and many of them missed or barely landed. I've never been one to give a guy a round based heavily on activity. Activity and achievement are not the same thing.
Canelo simply landed the cleaner, more effective punches. His poor workrate was exceeded by Trout's, but fortunately his defence negated most of what Trout threw. A close, competitive fight but Canelo was easily the correct winner. And the reason why more fans had it scored to Trout, was probably because he was the underdog and Showtime's commentary was generous towards him; exaggerating the effectiveness of his workrate.
the poll ends the discussion. Even if you have it even like many have it 114-114, a draw goes to the champion.
i didnt think there was anything wrong with the decision...maybe cards were abitwide but i thought alvarez deserved the win
Canelo close but clear. Far cleaner punches, did all the hurtin', scored the KD, and the loser admitted defeat. It's unhealthy to be a Canelo hater, but whoever still thinks Trout got robbed, be it.
Some people don't know to score on effective aggression which you're supposed to go on. Effective aggression is landing clean and meaningful shots, not ones that are mostly blocked.
I watched the fight the next morning without commentary and had Alvarez the clear winner. I'm starting to doubt myself, maybe I really DKSAB... I'm very surprised so many people scored for Trout. Maybe they gave the rounds to the more active fighter, who was Trout in most of the rounds but he just wasn't effective, at all. You could clearly see how Trout was missing most of his punches. Even if Alvarez' workrate was low, so was Trout's accuracy. Alvarez defense was superb and he landed some excellent shots to steal most rounds.
