I can't remember what the differences were, but I remember sitting in a Physiology lecture in uni, where the lecturer described how South Americans in countries of high altitude, and East Africans in countries of high altitude, had actually adapted differently from a physiological perspective in terms of how they deal with that attitude. That is likely one of the major reasons for a lack of Bolivan distance running success. One major strength of countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea etc though, is that running is the sport everyone wants to compete in. If you have a very high participation rate for a sport, of course it is likely to increase the chances of finding successful athletes within that sport. Why don't West Africans do aswell as American, Canadian, Jamaican, Trinidad athletes ?, it is likely due to social circumstances and set up. The standard of facilities, coaching, and rewards than come with athletics (scholarships etc) in the American countries are of course going to encourage more people to participate in those sports, and improve the quality for those that do. You do have people like Francis Obikwelu, who won Bronze in the 100m at a World Championship for Nigeria before defecting to Portugal and winning a Silver for them in the 100m at the Olympics. Infact Nigeria have been a force over some time in the sprint distances (60m indoor up to 400m outdoor), and usually quite strong in the relays. Other West African countries have been a bit weaker, but immigration has shown that genetic potential may not be the reason for this, such as Ghana may not have many decent sprinters, but Hary Aikines-Aryeetey was born to 2 Ghanaian parents in England, and showed terrific potential as a youngster (winning World Youth and Junior titles), although he has failed as yet to reach anywhere near that standard as a senior. I certainly believe that it is economic, social and technical reasons as to why West African sprinters don't do better, as opposed to genetic. Now, what a tangent we've gone off on ! Not the classiest stuff from Cunnigham and his entourage, but Nazim was his usual classy self and put calm to the situation.
in the book bounce he talks at length about this. if i remember the main thin g with the kenyans is success breeds success and inspires others to greater heights and everyone in kenya runs. interestingly it is one small area of kenya which all the successful runners come from. not thwe whole country. and a massive amount of the kids there run 10 plus kms to school every day each way. so if you were running 20 - 30 kms everyday from the age of 5 you probably would get pretty good at distance running. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bounce-Myth...F8&qid=1366656862&sr=8-1&keywords=bounce+book
This brother nazim is starting to ****ing **** me off. You are from the streets... we get it mate, what do you want a ****ing gold medal? People seem to think he's some sort of philosophical wise man, he isn't and if you think he is you are a goon.
Hes a wannabe heavy still in tears after getting KTFO The mug just wants to get more twitter followers now and big payday rematch.
Has Cunningham said he wants a rematch? I though he was just after the N/C. I'd be surprised if he wanted anymore of that.
Cant be to critical for him not making the count, he was ****ed. You're right about his conduct post fight tho, really disappointing. I just cant wait for Furys next press conference/fight
Wasn't being critical mate but he had chance to get up and didn't. He was showing the wear and tear of the war as you say. Don't think he likes that type of fight and doubt he would do it again.
Yeah fought like a utter dinilow. Screaming in first round and swinging wild hooks seen 2 years ago. It was like a re-run of his fights in 2011 and before.
The Bottom line is, Tyson Fury was making a massive deal about being 6"9 and a super-heavyweight before this fight, and he was dismissing USS, because he was 6"3 and 200+ pounds. I even dismissed USS, but USS came to fight, and to my surprise and i believe Tyson Fury's..? USS fought a big mans fight giving away 44 pounds! That was a real fight! That was not boxing, it was a real fight. Both fighters where emotionally involved, and especially USS. Before the fight USS took allot of abuse from Tyson Fury, and i don't think you should loose respect for USS because of this press conference! Tyson Fury has been threatening violence and bad mouthing all his opponents, two can play that game..? Remember, this was a real fight. USS was fighting while his daughter was in hospital, against Tyson Fury who was threatening his way of life. "The man is seriously pissed off".... These are the sporting match ups, that boxing needs. Both guys have gained more respect from me, especially USS!
Harry Aikines was just one of these teenagers who go through puberty and develop early....? That is the reason why he has not improved dramatically in the senior ranks. He had he physical development of a adult in his teenage years, and from my knowledge he did not even weight train during the majority of his junior career. I can remember everybody wanking over him when he did the double at the World Youth Championships! But people seemed to ignore the fact that he was just one of these man beast at a young age, the junior ranks can be misleading.
