Just to stop his critics from bitching about fighting a smaller fighter with a style tailor made for him. If he fights him at a catch weight of 144 he gains nothing legacy-wise. This fight is a done deal. If its at 140 it could be an entertaining fight cause Pac will be having a hard time making the weight. If its between 144-147 it'll be a murder ala David Diaz fight.

I always thought he would move down to 140 when he became older.

Fighters typically get more flat footed and dependent on power as they age. manny's power on average would have a greater effect on the smaller guys at 140

    Alvarado is smaller than Pacquaio?

    Since when?

Alvarado weighed in at 160 lbs against Rios. He's bigger than Mayweather.

This is not an easy fight for Pacquaio. It's defenitely not a fight I would throw Pacquaio in with right away.

If it was me, I would throw Pacquaio in with a confidence builder like a Malinaggi type opponent.

And Pacquaio having trouble making weight is laughable.

The reason Pacquaio fights at 147 is because he is fighting against guys that are the same size of him or in Marquez case, artificially enhanced. That way, both guys can just come in at their normal weight which is probably around 147 or below, and not have to worry about making weight.

Floyd did the same thing with Cotto.

Floyd didn't want to have to worry about weight and neither did Cotto. When Cotto got in the ring with Trout, you saw him with a real 154 lb fighter in Trout vs a guy that should be fighting at welterweight.

I've seen Pac interview in the Philippine media saying it'd be hard for him to make 140 :-:)-:)-(

It would probably cost him something to shed the weight off now. Or not.

    I guess I can't argue with that.

I think it's more like, "I'm Pacquaio, and I don't want to cut ****in weight. That's for people not named Pacquaio, so **** that bull****."

He probably could, but he doesn't want to go back to dehydrating himself, which means that he's going to fight a guy that's going to weigh 162 and up on fight night.

Alvarado is not a small guy.

He's like Victor Ortiz when he was fighting at 140. A huge guy that drained to make weight.

I'm not sure who it would benefit. I guess, I'll leave that up to Pacquaio and his team to decide. But if it were me, I would defenitely consider a catch weight because Alvarado is a big dude, so if you have to make him drain, even a little, do it.

When you're at his level in the sport, you can do what you want to do. You make the demands.

If fans don't appreciate what they see in the ring, **** em, but I don't see how fighting at 140 would benefit Alvarado anymore than 144.

Yeah, I don't know how anyone thinks Alvarado is a small guy. Him and Rios looked like super welterweights in the ring. I agree with the Dr., though. Pac probably has his mind set up that he doesn't want to have to drain anymore.

No way he can make 140..and there's no reason for him to do so. He doesn't get the advantage of smaller gloves and he actually has to watch what he eats to make weight. Lose/Lose. He's a superstar. Everyone(except Floyd) comes to him if they want the fight.

It would be a smart move if they can do it without draining him. If he can rehydrate the right way then fighting at 140 would be an advantage.
At 147 Alvarado would come in much heavier and making weight would be easy for him.

Fighting at 147 is better for Alvarez. He'll have to cut less weight and he's going to outweigh Pac by a good margin either way.

Alvarado will weigh in at whatever weight Pac tells him he will weigh in at.

And he will be well compensated for it.

Weight does'nt matter in this fight. Pacquiao is an all around better fighter than Alvarado is and he'd beat him handily at whatever weight Alvarado chooses to come in at.

The combination of speed and punching power would be to much for Alvarado to overcome.

If Alvarado comes in heavy it only slows him down for Pacquiao's speed to have more of an effect.

I'm surprised they are considering this fight.
