So the majority of press an fans had the fight for Trout?

You know me, I score it as a fight first, boxing match second. I haven't seen it yet though. Should be interesting when I do. During the Adamek/Cunningham fight Adamek's trainer was interviewed and thought his guy was scoring the heavier shots. This is something that is harder to pick up on TV.

 

Ask him who was floored in this fight.

either way that is why they have 3 judges. What they decide is who wins.

 

My theory is that boxing forum fans like to pretend they know more than everybody else and pick the "boxer" who is unknown to casual fans. This is psychological, making those who pick against the grain feel special and different from the masses.

"See that jab? See those punches? See how he isn't just swinging his arms like a gorilla?"

I heard a commenter on ESPN actually say, "This isn't a who hurts the other person more thing. It's a fight!" On these very forums I heard somebody defending Austin Trout say, "Well he can't help the fact that he can't punch hard enough!"

If boxing changes from a contest of will, intelligence, and technique into a slapping competition then boxing will officially be dead.

Nobody knows how hard each guy is punching, it's not being measured objectively. The guy who lands more power punches in more rounds should win. That was Trout. It was like when nobody gave Bradley any credit for the punches he was landing on Pac, and one Pac punch could win the round. Just because people perceived Pac as punching so much harder. I never saw Bradley hurt. Trout was hurt in one round. Most of the other rounds Canelo did nothing, he focused all his energy on slipping punches and not firing back. It isn't a who hurt who more thing, it's a 'who won the most rounds' thing.

115-112 Canelo. Deal with it, i dont remember any trout moments from the fight but remember many Canelo moments. Plus if i remember all ESB polls have Canelo winning.

You dont score points for avoiding punches.
1-3 punches landed dont win rounds.
A couple of rounds Canelo landed nothing at all. Especially the 12th
Anywhere else in the world Trout would of won.

 

What if those 3 punches were way more effective than the 10 or so jabs trout would land? I saw the fight as Trout flicking a few jabs out and once the distance closed he would get ripped with a uppercut or something way more prominent than ANYTHING he landed. So it comes down to effective punching or volume.

Its funny the same people saying trout won are also most of the same people that say Hopkins beat Calzaghe....smh.

 

Trout was wobbled on one or two other occasions, albeit momentarily. Those Canelo right uppercuts inside especially were doing damage. You're right in saying that who punches harder should be irrelevant, but you must take into account how clean the punches are, if they had an effect on the opponent etc. Canelo landed the slightly better punches overall in that fight for me, more effective. Quality over quantity. Round 6, for instance. It was a close round but I was leaning towards Trout based on workrate until the last few moments. He was a lot busier and landed some good shots to the body, however Canelo landed several great shots in the last few seconds which eclipsed anything Trout had landed in terms of quality. Based on the closeness of the round and that strong finish I gave it to Canelo, but I know there's many who wouldn't have. You can't just say 'Trout landed more punches, he wins'. Doesn't work like that. I think you can score that fight either way, but within' one or two rounds of each other. 115-112 Trout, don't think I can see that.

I have no problem with Canelo getting the decision, although the official judging was a joke.

 

It was a close fight Canelo won what's the big deal?And I was pulling for Trout big time he just didn't do enough to get the nod:-(
