Kessler sparring with Groves for the Froch fight

    Mikkel Kessler's fight against Carl Froch is approaching fast approaching.

    Mikkel Kessler is undoubtedly the biggest name in Danish boxing, and he has no challengers for the title. How it does not seem to Carl Froch, there is breath in my neck of his English compatriot George Groves.

    The 25-year-old Groves is in the same stable as Froch as they share promoter Eddie Hearn. Nevertheless, the ten years younger super middleweight repeatedly made inquiries about a fight against Froch.


    Now it appears that Groves will overcome Froch otherwise when he allegedly traveling to Copenhagen to spar with "The Viking Warrior". It is an arrangement that Kessler camp is extremely pleased with.


    - We hope he comes and spar with us. He is just the right kind of fighter who would give Mikkel fortnight of the right kind of sparring. He will be able to help Mikkel for the best possible shape so that he can get everything done, says Kessler's trainer Jimmy Montoya to the Daily Mail.


    The match Enclosures 25th May in London, and there are both Kessler's WBA world title - Andre Ward is the so-called Super-world champion WBA auspices - and Carl Frochs IBF title at stake. In 2010 beat Kessler Carl Froch on points in a game in the Super Six tournament.

    Or according to Groves. Groves is sparring with Kessler for his own good, not Kesslers.

    He does bring the same sort of crab-like movement and snaking jabs and leads. He's not as good as Froch, but he presents some of the same problems. Plus he's a little faster, I think.

    good sparring for groves, bit harsh to compare groves and froch though think groves will only get better and better and still quite young

    seen on ringside kessler had mcintosh in his camp, bit suprised he will retire if and its a big if he gets beat as if it goes 1-1 then a rubber match maybe in order

    think kessler beats him though closer we get to fight

    Good sparring for Mikkel, even better for George.

    Whilst George is always improving and I hope he becomes a world champion, I can't see anything other than a Froch win (most likely stoppage) if they fought in the next 12 months or so.

    I know its only sparring, but I'm sure Carl decked him a year or so ago.

    Carl dropped him with a body shot.

    But i hear the sparring was very competitive.

    Ah okay, I can imagine it was Groves is a quality fighter.

    It's similar in a way to Calzaghe v Froch debate a few years back (not saying that Carl has achieved or is as good as Joe!) in that its the veteran with the last couple of big pay days and legacy to secure, where as the challenger hasn't proved himself at world level.

    This is a good opportunity for groves. Should learn a fair bit by sparring with kessler.

    I have no major problem with Groves opponents as late as he has been getting out so regularly.

    Its when they don't fight more than twice a year and it is against the same opps you need to worry. They are clearly marking time for a big fight.
