I've never been a paricularly big fan of the guy either, and I agree that he has more than a few shortcummings, but in all fairness I think you're selling the guy a bit short. Boring or not, the man has a very polished left jab that is as good as most great fighters than I can think. Probably not as good as holmes' or Ali's, but still very effective. He has superior punching power than a lot of great heavyweights, and his defense has certianly improved since his losses to Sanders and Brewster.

I also think that he could have beaten a lot of the fighters that you listed. Terrell was far more limited than Wlad was. He was slower, weaker, had no power, limited boxing abiltity, etc. Ellis was a good boxer, but I don't think he could keep it up for 12 rounds and outjab Wlad. Quarry was great, but too small and got busted up bad when he was in there with someone who could land on him. Shavers had deadly power, but was extremely one dimensional and lost regularly to journeyman of his era. I'm also not sure that Michael Spinks would have beaten him either. Wlad had some less than flattering performances, but we can't judge what he'd do, soley on the basis of 3 fights out of 53. If you look at the records of many of the cotenders of the 60's and 70's they had some pretty bad losses too.

Well put, pretty harsh though. As much as I hate Wlad, I must admit I'm impressed with some of the things he's able to do for a guy 6'6 and half 245 or so, his jab is one of the best I ever seen, easy top 5, he would make my top 3 list personally. His power is nothing short of amazing, his straight right is as powerful as any other fighter that came before him, and there never was a fighter over 6'5 with the overall skill rate Wlad has in his arsenal.

On the other hand of the spectrum, Wlad has one of the weakest chins I ever seen for a Heavyweight champion, what makes it look even worse, is that he's such a big guy, but severely lacks toughness and has a very fragile pysche which makes him look petrified when ever a punch lands or is close to landing, I guess that's what bothers me the most about Wlad, I have a hard time looking at him as a dominant/elite Heavyweight, when everytime he gets hit with a decent shot, he panics, clinches, and falls all over the place. I didnt grow up in the late 60's or 70's, so I cant say if Wlad would beat or lose against all these guys that were metioned, but when Wlads pressured by a heavy hitting Heavyweight 9 times out of 10 he melts like a ice cream cone on a warm July afternoon, so any halfway decent fighter of any era has chance of beating Wlad into submission, as well as losing to Wlad by vicious knockout.

That's a pretty summation of the pro's and con's of Wlad. The main problem is both his pro's and con's are on the extreme end of the spectrum. If only his pro's were on that end, he'd be a hellva fighter, but the way he panics when getting hit, always makes you wonder what happens when he really gets cracked.

Im very surprised and almost stunned by the fact that so many have Wlad winning.

Ali had a GREAT chin and great stamina. He would outbox Wlad TOTALLY and win by KO round 8 or 9.

Wlad has no issue to put on a snoozer as long as hes winning, he wouldn't get frustrated by Ali, nor would he follow him around the ring. he'd take the center and bump that jab. Once Ali tries to come on, Wlad would start moving while bumping in these 1-2's.. Wlad by decision, **** poor style match up for Ali

In my opinion there a few heavyweights that can compete with Ali from 1967 let alone win.

:nono No you are deluded by terrible fighters Wlad faces(not Wlad fault), so you believe he cant miss his 1 2, because his opponents come with high gard without head movement, Haye showed that with decent upper body and head movement you can make Wlad miss and Ali would, Ali would not stand waiting to be hit by his power punches 1967 Ali had tremendous stamina and would move all night long while Wlad has very good footwork for his size Ali is 10x faster and would not let Wlad set with his feet so he can land something big, and i I said Ali had great reflexes not like majority of Wlads opponents no head movement at all http://25.media.tumblr.com/37466828dba62d673adbd1284ef58e06/tumblr_mi6eniZ8t51ralt7qo1_400.gif

Wlad would win in a manner like his win over Chris Byrd, as there is the same size and power advantage for Wlad.

    Wlad KO9
