Open Scoring......Is it such a bad thing?

It changed the fight completely. It made Trout fight a pace he doesn't fight in the middle rounds, which somehow brought a KD to the table. How in the world does Canelo won EVERY of the the first 8 rounds according to one judge, of course it's a bad thing.

 

not sure but they will always find out either way. people can just send them a text message if it is shown on the tv. same in the olympics, they always know the tv score.

 

imo they dont show the score live in the olympics, they just show the score on tv during replay.

 

It would've been better had Canelo been behind after the 8th round as it would be within plausibility that Canelo could get a couple of knockdowns and maybe stop Trout.

 

Don't confuse What happened last night with what should have happened.The judges SHOULD have had it close going into the final 4 and it SHOULD have brought the best out of both been. Poor judging ruined last night's fight, not open scoring

 

I wish we had early pregnancy scoring.....warning....pull out now....open scoring in boxing sucks....hairy sets

 

Whatever advantage you gain by knowing you're way behind is probably offset by the other guy knowing he can just put on the track shoes and win.

Also, you guys are focusing too much on unfair scores. How many fights have you seen where one guy's corner says he is way behind because he is clearly losing? He usually can't do much about it. If he could get a KO at will, he wouldn't be losing the fight.

But the guy who is way ahead doesn't know it with 100% certainty so he has to close out strong, for fear of winding up like Oscar vs. Tito. If he does know with 100% certainty, he could stink it out every time.

 

i dont think it's bad, gives the boxers an idea where they are in the fight.

That's what the trainer is there for.

- And how good your trainer is - how well he reads the fight & also the judges, is part of what makes a team & makes the sport interesting. It's like an auto racer having a great pit crew.

Open scoring takes all that away, as well as all the other negatives.

I see only one benefit, and that's to the promoters & networks: It lets the audience get used to an upcoming robbery, round-by-round, which sort of lessens the shock at the end.

I seriously think that's why they are starting to implement it.

It's horrible - fighters should always be trying to win rounds, not running away becasue they know they have won. It's horrible for the viewer, one of the most exciting moments in boxing is "the winner by ..... decision and......NEW WBC ..." - I still remember the moment Sugar Ray Leonard was announced as the "NEW WBC Middleweight champion" - open scoring ruins all those moments.

For the boxers it forces them to get desperate or alter what may well be a good game plan. Watching Sulaiman wrap that belt like a salivating dog around Canelo before the decision was even announced made me a little sick in many ways...

So no, open scoring is AWFUL - it has no redeemable features and it ruined what i thought was a good close fight.
