You have to relax man, first time I sparred i punched myself out early, was like **** this im getting in hard shots straight away
After that we relaxed and used the ring more, sparring isnt a bit winning its about practising your craft, dont rush in, its not about getting hit and hitting the other guy too much its about fixing everything and learning new things

You obviously work on stuff out of the ring and then practice what you've learnt in sparing.

Sparring for a gut check or sparring to prepare for a fight is not what you should be doing so just relax. The best boxers don't go out to win sparring, they go and work on what they are bad at which generally means looking bad for them.

Its helpful to remember sparing isn't fighting, so you shouldn't be there trying to take the other guys head of and vise versa. My 9/10st girlfriend has spared one of the most promising heavyweights from our local gym. He can work on footwork and she can work on whatever she wants without the worry of hurting him. If its some of your first times sparing its actually best to go in with an experienced boxer who can keep cool and deal with your wild punches but also stay cool himself without getting carried away.

Also if its your fist few times sparing you shouldn't be working on much more than jabbing and catching jab's at a range that only really connect with the gloves, while maintaining a good stance and moving around basically in the good stance. When you get comfortable with jabs coming towards you and catching them when take it a tiny step closer where they make contact. Then when its second nature bring in the back hand.

Mostly though just relax and don't step it past what you have learnt and are comfortable with.

    Also:

    Breath!!!!.....when....you...consciously......breath.....everything....goes....slower....and...is...easier...to...deal...with.

Relax and remember to control your breathing and make sure your shoulders aren't tensed. This will tire you. Make sure you watch your partner the whole time, if you see the punch coming it won't hurt as much as your reflexes will make you do what you can to avoid taking the full brunt of the punch or "ride" a punch as they say. The main point has already been said by everyone, relax.

No need to feel embarrassed i've seen guys who've sparred enough rounds to know better do the same.

You firstly need to put it behind you, use it as a learning curve. You're learning and mistakes will be made. Secondly with regards to freezing in the ring you need to control you're breathing and take small sips of water to stem any nervous energy. Control it and utilize it in the right way.

Focus on what you've learned and need to do, When you get in there have a plan of action and most importantly think about what you're doing as you move around. Maybe the first 30 seconds just move around and get yourself going. Start with a solid jab, and build into things.

The more you spar the easier it gets. Don't worry to much and focus on negative energy just go in there to learn and show you're development.

Next time you spar you now know you need to keep in position better and work the fundamental punches better. One step at a time and before you know it you be moving round nice and calm and feeling at home in there.

You can't do anything good when you're tense IMO. Drains to much energy and makes you hesitant.

You will get there mate :good.

Nobody ever looked good 3rd time sparring. You don't become good in this sport over night it takes years of practice and sparring. I feel your pain though, I am still learning but some days it feels like I have never sparred a day in my life before. I punch myself out quickly from hitting gloves and missing punches.

It sucks because I look awesome on the mits, great on the bags, great on the speed bag, great on the double end bag but none of that means a god damn thing when you step into the ring and fight. I actually don't even mind getting hit in sparring, yeah the bigger shots hurt but I can shake them off. It's the cardio that gets me every time.

Mate don't worry, it's only your third time sparring, you will get better in time, stick with it and don't get disheartened, we have all been there at some point, anybody who says thay haven't is lying.

No one turns up at a boxing gym with their skillset already ingrained, you learn through years of practise and guidance from a good trainer.
