the title says it, is vitalis chin overrated? we all know he absorbed brutal punishment againt lewis and his chin seemed to be great but how much can we really say about his chin. he only faced two people that could punch and also really hit him (lewis and sanders). if he would have fought more fighters of that caliber, do you think we still would consider his chin to be great? mike tyson once said that people take different punches differently, i.e. some are more prone to get knocked out by an uppercut than by a straight right hand. don't you think that someone who is considerd to have a great jaw should have been in many more wars to really be able to assess his whiskers? it all comes down to the following question: based on the amount of hard punchers vitali faced, is it possible to rate his chin or would it take a bigger samplesize to assess his mandibles? btw: i'm no hater, vitali is imo h2h easily top 5
if you would have just seen lewis vs tua and lewis vs vitali you also would have said that lewis has a great chin... don't you think that a great chin is based on severals fights and not just on two?
It's a fair comment, his chin was shown to be great but only off a limited number of opportunities. Would love to see if he could take some of Haye's best shots.
I think it's very good, but overrated. People call his chin the GOAT because of one uppercut he took from Lennox Lewis. Ray Mercer ate those same uppercuts for 12 rounds
His chin is incredible and made of iron. But it's not Marvin Hagler-Jake Lamotta great. Not even Chavez great. But that should be no shame- in short; great but overrated. Probably takes shot from everybody today.
yeah that's my point! no one would say has the best chin ever but he still was able to take lewis' punches
