Once again the same old blueprint almost worked. Wait for Khan to leave himself out of position with his guard down after an attacking flurry and you are free to swing for the fences with either hand safe in the knowledge that Khan is in no position to counter. All Khan should think about now is keeping a tight guard and using his jab to try and win rounds. He does not have the ability to mount any kind offense without leaving himself wide open. Why give them a free pass to his chin multiple times just to be "entertaining".
Totally agree. I need to review the fight again, but I noticed that during the times when he was on the offense (where he's at his most vulnerable), he looked the safest when doing it behind a few jabs. They were sharp enough to back Diaz up and not allow him to stay in balance to throw anything dangerous back. I'd like him to keep that right hand glued to the chin when jabbing/hooking, and only release it as a pot-shot when he's absolutely sure the opponent won't be throwing back. Under no circumstance should he let go of that right hand more than twice during a combo, especially if it's during an exchange.
That sounds like terrible advice. Khans greatest asset is his lightning fast combos. The problem he has is when he uses that in and out style which gets too predictable. He needs to learn how to switch it up a bit and tighten his defense. Relying mostly on the jab will negate his fast combos and be a help to his opponents.
I said from day 1 Khan needs to jab for at least a minute straight then come in with random 4 punch combo's then go back to the jab for a while again He wants to throw too many combo's Look at Judah in the Garcia fight he didnt get caught with any looping punches because he would not commit he was only jabbing but Khan has the speed to make the jab work (not against Garcia though)
He can keep winning if he goes back to the Kotelnyk style fight, tap and run - but thats not fun to watch
The point is he cannot learn. Khan has demonstrated he does not have the ability to throw combinations and maintain a disciplined defence. The positions Khan finds himself in during fights are comical and ungainly. Not expected from a professional. After he throws a combination, he has no idea of his own position in the ring let alone his opponent and he appears surprised to find there is someone else in the ring with him... and shock horror...they are punching him. Khan needs to change his mentality from being an offensive minded fighter. He needs a tight guard and jab. Let his opponents take risks if they want to commit to punches.
He can't just use his jab, otherwise fighters are going to walk him down and look for that overhand right over the top of it. He needs to throw smart combinations at range to deter his opponents. Khan fought and boxed at the wrong times last night.
Khan can't help but fall in, even when throwing his jab. Every punch in his arsenal leaves him open for counters because of his poor technique.
Here's what I wrote on a boxing fan page. Diaz is a shot fighter? Ummm...you people don't know shitt about boxing. He drew Shaun Porter and for those who actually follow boxing had a ****ing war with Juan Diaz. His brother and trainer are Joel Diaz, who with Mayweather and Hunter are considered the best defensive trainers. Diaz is a ex lightweight titleholder and has a 60% KO rate which is along the rate of Maidana and Garcia. People are kidding themselves for thinking he's a bum. Bunch of bitches who never sparred or competed to say that. Diaz' right was what hurt Khan and threw off his attention (watch how slick and poweful he is with it too-never telegraphs it), left hooks were follow ups and really hurt him. Notice how well he did in the starting rounds against that left hook. His right progressively dropped his right, as I noticed, as the fight went on and as he has a tendency to do. This fight he showed both Roach and Hunter tendencies. Rounds 1-6. At times showing great defense, backing up, re-cooperating, holding, blocking body shots with his right, jabbing his way back to confidence in the earlier rounds. The knockdown WAS A KNOCKDOWN, but like I said he got hit with a straight right and left hook. The first shot got his attention, he forgot about his footwork and the second knocked him down, a punch with bad balance (his legs were together just like Garcia knocking Judah down), I didn't think it had hurt him badly. He also was boxing a lot more standing up and on his back foot. Was boxing beautifully, showing good RING IQ, awareness in the ring, ad ******g to the rights and circling away from the left hooks 6 onwards. He did some Bradleyesque shitt throwing back once he got clipped and not jabbing for a damn near minute after round 8. His jabs in the early round were body length. He was bending down adnd shooting low (what Hunter eminded him to do in later rounds). He went back to a lot of the Roach mentality of launching without jabbing back, dropping his right guard, throwing an uppercut or two from the outside (really really bad, very telgraphed). Stopped feinting and more importantly stopped thinking. Became a lot more predictable without feints. Earlier, he had a beautiful feint the left jab throw a left hook that caught Diaz a few times. Unlike the Molina fight he stopped doubling and tripling up his jab. Don't know why he didn't continue that. I would like to see him fight one more person before a championship fight. People who dont know **** about boxing if they are saying he's shot. Changing a trainer isn't easy. Robert Guerrero is gonna be one of Mayweather's hardest challenges. He has 1 loss and 1 draw. Both those fights were fights that weren't with his dad (original trainer). I had Khan 115-113 At best this was a draw but I can't see Diaz getting it. Ref was a little shitty at times apparently tellign Diaz not to taunt Khan, but Diaz in the first round he dominated (round 7?) threw a few low blows, rabbit punches, kidney shots in clinch...so for me it evened out the hometown advantage.
Good review Zetsui. I think people are forgetting to give Diaz credit in there. Very crafty with his punches, he didn't telegraph at all, a lot of the shots surprised me just watching.
There you go, Khan makes it relatively easy for the likes of Diaz, Gacia, Peterson with his inconsistency. Its clear its too risky for him to implement his current style, making so many huge mistakes during the course of a bout. Just like Peterson, all Diaz had to do was duck under Khans lunging combinations and Khan was a sitting duck. Khan has the speed to counter..why make life easy for them by initiating every exchange?
