Havent been up here since before the fights and the main page didnt have a Sergio knee thread so I decided to ask oyu guys what you thought He moved less, moved slower, and threw his punches with less force I think it played a role Also on the slip it looked like he might have hurt it there again, is that true by any reports because i know his hand got injured
He looked out of shape (soft to Martinez's standards) and was not as mobile and reflexes and power was not there. Very reminiscent of Roy Jones Jr after he came down from heavyweight and after a couple of losses. Thats what it reminded me of. The hand injury was an excuse as it would have not affected his mobility and his fight shape. I would think if he came off of knee injury, that definitely would have affected him, but I also think he is looking old and looking his age.
martinex explicitly stated that he was in the best shape ever and had the best training camp of his career. i believe it too. it was his homecoming fight in a massive arena
Im about to watch the fight now...but going into this fight I've always thought the knee would be an issue. Sergio's main tools are his legs, he depends on his athleticism.
Chavez Sr. and Jr, one got embarrassed by Pernell, the other to Martinez. Spinks Judah 2, Khan last night, Trinidad/Hopkins, Haye/Wladimir.. ****, even Mayweather Hatton. There's more examples, but these are from the top of my head.
He is 38, He is a small middleweight, pressure of a homecoming, his knee, his hand, it was raining men... Holy **** how many excuses does it take. (He has been on the decline since 2010)
Maybe I need to watch the fight again, but, his legs and fitness looked pretty much the same as what they were against Barker and Macklin. His main problem, in my opinion, is that he's not quick enough to continue with that hands-down style. Over the past few years he's been suffering from this. Williams, Macklin, Chavez and Pavlik, they've all been tagging him and knocking him down. So no, I don't think it played that much of factor. Murray's discipline in executing a sharp gameplan to take advantages of his low hands, did.
After watching the fight I have to agree with this...his movement was not the problem(which obviously is where the knee would come into play). Murray was troubling him with his defense just as Barker did, Murray also seemed the bigger stronger man.
Might aswell blame his socks or his shoes, with all these Maravilla apologists around. He's old, he's not recovering as well as he used to inbetween rounds and he's not as mobile. He's going to be badly beaten if he does not retire, I see Golovkin/Quillin and Chavez Jr knocking him out in spectacular fashion.
michael nunn was in his hometown of davenport iowa when toney ko'd him. tommy morrison was in his hometown when bent ko'd him in 1.
