Did Martinez change trainer or something? ever since Burns beat him he has looked pretty bad, yes he was always crude but he just smothers his work and telegraphs his shots something shocking these last few fights, lunges in and leaves himself wide wide open for counters, almost amateurish (though I did have him nicking the Beltran and Magdeleno fights thanks to the point deduction and knockdown, not Burgos though, that fight he lost)

he looks like **** these days does Rocky, but he could at least put together a good combo here and there ( the well timed right that dropped Magdeleno was a throwback to what Rocky could do at his best)

  3. This might not go down well but Simpson, gethin, purdy,o'sullivan and whoever else don't deserve title shots because they havnt defeated world level opponents and climbed the rankings

2 deserving challengers are brook and mcdonnell

I like john Simpson, he's probably not quite worthy of a world title shot strictly speaking but so what, plenty of others have been given shots that were far less deserved. At least if he got one you absolutely know for a fact he would go for it and leave it all in the ring. Martinez has looked absolute dog **** in his last few fights, like he can't be arsed at all. That said I still think Simpson would give him the kind of fight he likes and that might play into his hands. Can't see Martinez coming back to Scotland any time soon in any case!

To the point where people try to take credit away from Burns for beating him, but the Martinez Burns beat is not the Martinez we see today, I think after getting outmanned by Burns he lost his menace and his confidence to a degree, but Simpson/ Martinez could be a good scrap

    nah...

Martinez would have wee Simmy out of there by the half way mark. Wee Simmy is a solid domestic operator, but Rocky Martinez is a class apart. Hits way too hard, & Simpson would crumble under his pressure & power shots.

People need to realise that Rocky Martinez is a hard ******* of a fighter. People still in denial cos Ricky Burns beat him. People on these shores need to wake up to the fact Rocky is a class act, & stop dissin him cos he lost to Ricky Burns. Its ****in annoying considering what Burns has went onto achieve since. Has anyone else even come close to putting the Rickster on his arse since? Martinez was the night Ricky Burns stepped up & showed he was the real deal. NOT the night Martinez showed he was a fraud.

I would be happy it if either of these got a world title shot after their fight. No offense to John but i hope it's Choi.

Don't mean to be rude but.........what are you on about ?

Saw similar posts in a thread recently when the Choi fight was made and was like ???

John Simpson won the Lonsdale belt for keeps at Featherweight against Martin Lindsay.

Lee Selby is still at Featherweight.....John Simpson isn't.

Choi go this IBO shot before and lost, don't see why anyone thinks he'd win one of the big 4. If Simpson beats him and strings it together with a fringe world level win then I don't see why he wouldn't be deserving of a shot.

I follow Rockys career closely HH my good man, most people on here dont.

So it pisses me off when I see negative posts about him. I watched the guy close up & personal at the Burns fight, I heard the power of his shots, still dont know how the Rickster stood up to his onslaught.

To me, this win is Rickys best, but is criminally overlooked. Its a better win to me than any of Scotty Harrisons wins, & its known how much I adore the scotty man. Im a fan of Rocky as well as Ricky.

In fact, Rocky Martinez won an award recently... I was well chuffed for him.

Martinez really isnt all that, he's stuggled time and time again at world level. He was getting outboxed by Nicky Cook before stopping him, and was even given a lot of trouble with a very average opponent in Viloria, seemed clueless in parts just because Viloria offered him a bit of nifty footwork. His last two fights, against decent operators fair enough, he's gotten two decisions he shouldnt have aswell. His power keeps him in a lot of fights, but anyone with a good skillset, who can box, will most likely beat him.

Cant see Simpson doing it though, he's a come forward all action fighter, with moderate power and skills. He's made for Martinez to look good against.

Negative or not......he isn't what he was Dunky.

Did ya see his last fight in China ?

With regards to him being Ricky Burns best win to date.......i can see why.

Ricky wasn't deserving yada yada and Martinez was a boss.......naturally when Ricky won Martinez wasn't such a boss......and many and most undermined both.....wrongly........yet hardly surprising.

John Simpson Vs Martinez is not the 6 round decimation your talking of imo....if both carry on as they are right now.

    What was the award ?

Again I had him just beating Beltran and Magdaleno even though I still feel he has regressed a lot since Burns beat him a few years ago (his last decent performance was when he DESTROYED Daniel Attah in his first comeback fight after Burns...but since then..)

And in fact if you watch the Cook fight again, you'll see Martinez was bothering Cook a lot more with his shots than it first seems, it took me (a Cook fan) a second or third viewing to notice this, but Martinez looked very strong in that fight
