How would Canelo have done against Williams

7/10 Williams just outworks him while Alvarez lands the more eye catching shots. Williams UD in a very controversial fight.

 

Probably stops him. Canelo can crack. Williams might make him sweat for as long as it lasts.

Guys are forgetting that the proposed Alvarez/Williams fight was over a year after Lara beat Williams to a pulp.

Alvarez would have mimicked Lara and that same fight would have played out, 8-4 Alvarez; and Paul would've been the smaller draw and therefore lost the decision.

 

Canelo would have stopped Williams no doubt...

Yes high work rate, not much pop... easy to find because he leves himself open... Martinez caught him with so many lefts... it would have been target practice.

Lara is a slick southpaw, Williams has 3 losses to 3 counter punching southpaws. He looks almost unbeatable vs orthodox fighters.

 

Well it's a little unfair to use "peak" Williams against 23 year old Alvarez.

The logical timeline for this thread would be when the fight was signed to actually take place.

 

I'd take a peak Paul Williams over the current Canelo.

well if the fight took place when it was supposed to, then I'd still favor Williams, but not as confidently because of his punch resistance. Though Lara can punch pretty well and didn't take him out despite landing on him constantly through the fight and Williams looked his normal (but flawed) self against Ishida

I've only seen Paul Williams struggle with one attribute which is the ability to create angles. Whenever he faced someone who could create angles and take away or at the very least slow down his work-rate he struggled. Carlos Quintana exposed it in the first fight and I think Sergio Martinez copied it.

I think the key to getting Paul Williams to expose that chin would be to create an angle where it's hittable and Saul Alvarez isn't going to expose that. He's going to stand their, wait and wait and wait....and wait until he can finally hit him with something. By that time Williams would've been up six rounds to nothing.
