Well, not just Wlad but both of the brothers. They are seen as possessing of physical size, brain rattling power and superb ring intellect. But they were percieved as raw, and too stiff having the stand-up European style, and they are untested. One point is clear, they had potential but they were never seem to be a threat to Lennox at that point in time. I see Wilder in a similar position right now. Completely untested, especially his ability to take a punch, but seems to possess raw power and skills. Also, he's not yet a threat to Wlad. And who knows, maybe we will never find out. Maybe Wlad is already retired by the time WIlder gets to the top. Or maybe he gets there, gives a fight of his life and ends up short ala Vitaly. The point is, we can't completely count the guy out. But don't overdo it and proclaim him this soon as "the" future champion. Not just yet.
Klitschkos both had fantastic amateur backgrounds. Vlad won the gold medal back in 1996, he also fought top fighters early in his career. His skills were totally superior and so was Vitali's, not to mention Vitali's iron chin. AT this time Wilder has only fought winos from the alley and is extremely wild. a good boxer will beat him to the punch. Watch Tyson Fury's cousin, who is only 18 years old, is 6 feet 8 inches tall, Jr. Olympic world champion, he has very straight punches, has tons of speed, great defense, balance, footwork, he is a future champion for sure. He is better than Tyson Fury right now. I would pick Wach, Pulev, Boytsov, Kevin Johnson, Jennings, Scott, Stiverne all to beat Wilder...............
When was Wlad ever perceived as raw? Here's a 24 year old Wlad demolishing 3-time HW title challenger Axel Schulz: [yt]zXGTygdrNHo[/yt]
Wlad was also once in David Price's position... #FutureUndisputedChampionOfTheWorld This content is protected This content is protected
Wladimir had actually beaten a few decent guys when he had 28 fights. At the very least Wladimir had a far better resume than Wilder after 28 fights.
Wladimir was always been a very well schooled fighter, I would never describe him as raw. He was more reckless in his youth but always had his skills earned during a long, prestigious amateur career to fall back on. By the time he was 27 Wladimir had already faced some big names, former champions and title challengers and was a champion himself (beating Byrd by decision). Wilder has fought Audley Harrison.
Thats four black fighter you tipped in one post. I believe you must be going to race sensitivity classes farmy. But it is a good post. I agree with each thing you said EXCEPT the part about Hughie being the better Fury, RIGHT NOW. It's highly plausible since his technique is very good at this level, but like Wilder, he hasnt seen a punch come his way yet. At least not a meaningful shot from a Blevel fighter. And Wach would indeed smoke Wilder. Seeing that Wlad couldnt dent that iron chin, there is no doubt Wilder wouldnt either. And the shots Wlad took in their fight woulda sent Wilder into a retirement home. BUT....if Wilder was smart, and didnt jump on Wach the first time he landed a hard R hand, and boxed, he might outpoint the oaf. :yep
This ^ Wladimir was never raw he was just a little bit more wild and agressive. His knockout losses changed his style to a more defensive one but he still carried the power that made him a up and comer to the new style. Wilder does have a good amateur background but he's still a work in progress and that's why he's brought along slowly. I have no problem with him facing journeymen up until now since didn't he start boxing at a avanced age? But if you want to look at someone who WAS in wladimir position you don't need to look further then price tbh.
Undoubtedly. And while Wlad has had to climb some steep hills in his climb to the top of the game, it was losses like the one to Sanders that helped him conquer the likes of 24-0 Sam Peter. I wonder if Wilder, after getting KTFO by say, Amir Monsour, could come right back a few tune ups later and take out a fighter like Mago.:think:think
Wlad was brought along much less careful as Wilder. He was more active and had faced and beaten much better competition, and cocidered a real beast at the time. Comparing the two is completely bogus at this point in their careers.
Wilder is the next Gerry Cooney. He's being hyped up and fed carefully handpicked opposition until he earns a big money fight and/or a title shot then he'll be fed to the wolves and the carcass picked clean before the world moves on
I think Wlad had much more going for him. Technically, Wilder is worlds behinds what Wlad was at that young age. I really want Wilder to succeed, but all he has at the moment is impressive athleticism. He's way too raw at the moment.
