I try to do a 100 pushups everyday. Is this overtraining? On weekend I'm with coach so he makes me do lots of them (but spaced out). But on Mon-Fri should I be taking rest?

I did something like this. My experience: no need everyday definitely.
Also, there are different kind of pushups. Not all are very useful for boxing. The most suitable are jumping pushups, also try to force your elbows be close to your ribs as possible to train more shoulders than triceps, because mere arm extension with triceps does not contribute much to punching power. Overtraining triceps with slow, monotonic types exercises may actually slow you down.

    Hope it helps!

Not a good idea, I used to do what I thought you had too do for boxing before I knew better, miles upon miles on the road 100s of push ups and sit ups. I am now literally riddled with numerous injuries. I train smart now but it has affected me for years. I've ended up with terrible muscle imbalances basically my front is more developed than my back. Wish I knew then what I do now. I'm currently on a long rest and rehabbing a bad shoulder and neck which has affected me for years, but I was a tough guy (aka stupid) TRAIN SMART!!!!!

100 pushups is nothing unless they're consecutive. You should be able to do that without breaking a sweat. No really, if you were doing 1000 it would be wise to take take some days off. 100 shouldn't even phase you unless you're huge.

It is not overtraining. Pushups are no big deal.
You will be fitter for it up to a point. If you feel a benefit, nail it. Don't make it the only thing you do though!

You aren't going to train doing that, but what's the point? Your training should be efficient.

maybe not every day but surely cant be a bad thing long as your doing them fast to work fast twitch muscles. i find a good way to do 100 is in a pyramid (40 30 20 10) il make sure i struggle to finish the 10 by putting feet up on a step or doing claps maybe both.
I read somewhere on this forum pushups are a 'redundant' exercise! I strongly disagree! think so would many pros such as Weaver: " I never lifted weights in my prime, but I did a lot of squats and a whole lot of push-ups; around 500 a day." http://www.eastsideboxing.com/2012/...amp-mike-weaver-the-man-they-called-hercules/

A lot of top athletes (boxers in particular) are good inspite of their training not because of it.:good

Doing them fast isn't going to be working your fast twitch muscle if you can do 40 of them, the intensity is way too low to recruit high frequency motor units. Pushups are fine if you're not concerned about strength and just want some endurance/hypertrophy of slow twitch fibres. Boxers are generally not impressive physical specimens when it comes to strength so I wouldn't follow what they do.
What would the point of push ups be for a guy who can bench 200kg, and spends all day punching? Absolutely redundant. You should be spending that time doing some pulling exercises instead, absolutely no need for more pointless pushing.

i would say do them every second day, and then do squats and lunges on the other days, to balance your body and muscles out. also if you can mix in a few pull ups then your body will be fine

100 push ups isn't that much but it is if you are not doing any pulling exercises. Everything boxing is forward motion, punching, tucking chin, rounding the shoulder. It leads to really bad posture problems. I've read ideally you should be pulling on at least a 2-1 ratio to pushing just to try and stop muscle imbalances and bad posture

I used to do 100- 150 push ups a day along with bench, wide arm push ups, plyo push ups... Then do a few chin ups or rows and never worked my lower back at all. Not saying that is the only reason for my injuries but deffo a major factor! Over developed chest, shoulders pulled forward = shoulder ****ed.

I'd urge anyone boxing to really look into posture correction, "real" core flexibility ext .
