I agree with Dunky, it's really unfair to try and say "oh look, Martinez isn't that good after all"

the guy Burns was in with was a monster, but I think Ricky took his heart that night

Martinez was a magnificent puncher imo by far the hardest Ricky has faced but you only hurt what you hit and hitting Ricky hard people have found a lot harder than what they imagine

Roman Martinez isn't really a massive puncher imo,he's a one dimensional grafter who often wins fights with an accumulation of punches rather than single power shots. He tends to look pretty dam awful too at times, someone like Mikey Garcia would bury him.Great win for Ricky though considering he was the underdog and nobody picked him to win but not his best win.

Maybe so but his record tells another story, besides knocking out bums in Puerto Rico the only other Ko win he has is over Nicky Cook, his last three have gone to the score cards and he was given a gift against Burgos who handled his power without flinching. He seems to force his punches a bit too much leaving himself open for counters, not an admirer of his whatsoever.I think he was tailor made for Ricky aswell as he was able to tee off on him all night with that lovely uppercut and basically make him look one dimensional which is what he is.

If Simmo is supposedly ready give the shot to Selby. Or give Selby the Choi fight if Simpson loses then give Selby the big push if he beats Choi.

He looked his old self beating the **** out of Attah but as you say, lately he's been really forcing his work, leaning in, telegraphing and smothering his own punches, aside from that good timed right hand that floored Magdeleno which was a sign of what he can do, Martinez hasn't looked good lately, but watch the Burns fight again.

Watch when he had Burns up against the ropes early on, he landed 3 great, punishing left hooks to the body alone before Burns countered the 4th with his uppercut and took it from there, I truly believe Burns took a lot out of Martinez in that fight, not because he gave him a beating, but because he outmanned him, Martinez hasn't really been the same since

I think Martinez I caught in between two styles just now his old bomb them out approach and trying to be more of a boxer, hence the reason he seems to be over stretching his work

Martinez punches hard, Not much else in his game really. Nicky Cook took rounds of him but Ricky bullied the bully. When you fight him you got to be strong and committed to you're own punches.

Lost his last two fights but got the nod, He's going to lose in near future. But solid enough fighter but i wouldn't try build him up to be anything else then a solid world level fighter which is cool.

  10. If Ricky got offered a big money all Scottish clash with Simpson and the WBO allowed it as a voluntary defense would he not take it ?

I wouldn't be one bit surprised if this is what Eddie Hearn has in his mind.

Wee simmy is a solid operator who gives nearly all a tough time of it and has been unfairly underrated and had lots of controversial / unfair decisions go against him. His change in weight appears to have helped out as he seems to have a bit more power.

As for Martinez hes strong no doubt but also very raw but as Breeny has pointed out a few times Martinez just doesnt seem the same guy since being out skilled and out fought by Burns.

There is no disdain on my part all there is is how i see things at present. If Simpson fights Martinez it will be a closer fight than most would predict. As simpson is underrated. Simpson with all the **** thats gone against him deserves a chance
