the murray-martinez fight was not close at all

The referee ruled it a slip, so you can't score it. Same as you can't disregard a ref docking a point or calling a slip a knockdown.

The only reason that I score a fight is for my own interest....Im judging it how I see it not how some myopic official sees it.

It was definitely close, but could have been scored either way. Not a robbery, but certainly not a decisive win for Martinez. What an utterly pointless thread that contributes nothing what so ever.

Course they don't. Given the amount of dick sucking Sergio gets on this forum and the muted defense of him getting the decision, it just shows how well Murray did.

From the sound of how the crowd treated Murray and his supporters I think giving him the decision might have led to deaths though... so, never mind!

A moral victory is always better than being strung up by your knackers from a lamp post in down town Buenos Aires :thumbsup

I do believe there have been instances of judges counting or disregarding knockdowns against what the ref has ruled. I don't know what the official rules state, but it does go on.

If I'm scoring a fight I go with what the ref says, he is in the best position to judge. It really looked like Murray got a 2nd knockdown to me, but I didn't count it. Apparently he stepped on his toe...

Can't the judges overrule the ref?

I'm pretty sure they can, but I don't think they should be.

Nope. That would be even more open to corruption. Imagine a fighter lost a point for hitting low unintentionally, but consistently. The judge feels it's harsh and ignores the deduction. The score comes down a point difference and that score makes it a draw.

Like it or not, officials make mistakes and judgement calls. The referees are there to score the fight, not officiate it.

    From the ABC rules:

    http://www.abcboxing.com/documents/abcboxing_officials_certification_program.htm

A judge can only score a knockdown when the referee declares one. If there have been occasions of it, any legal challenge would see the fight become an NC.

But judges can score 10-8 rounds without any knockdown occurring at all can't they?

Didn't 1 of the judges score a 10-8 round when khan was getting battered by maidana in the (I think) 11th round and khan didn't even touch down, just based on him being so battered

That's pretty rare. That can only happen if the judge feels one fighter dominated to such an extent that they did everything BUT knock the other guy down.

And that's one of the better examples. He beat Khan senseless for the majority of the round and the only thing he didn't do was score a knockdown. A 10-8 without a knockdown suggests such dominance that the winning fighter deserves extra credit. The round where Murray clipped Martinez just doesn't count.

It's not the judges fault to hold the referee's decision to account. They are simply meant to score the fight.
