I've noticed in his last few fights that he is getting backed into the ropes more and more and starting to get hit a little more. It is starting to remind me of Roy Jones Jr. Nobody really noticed it at first, but even before the Ruiz fight he started getting backed into the ropes more and more and using his legs less and less. I'm not saying Mayweather is going to lose, but it wouldn't shock me. He still has great defense but I don't see him being able to do what Hopkins has done simply because they are completely different fighters. Some of the things he has said on All Access and things like switching trainers and bragging about how in shape he is reminds me of an aging fighter that is trying to convince himself more then anyone else.
Rewatching the Cotto fight this week, it's clear to me there has been a big decline across the board.
PBF's last prime fight was against JMM. Since then he hasn't countered no where near as much hasn't really thrown the pull counter and his accuracy footspeed and handspeed have all dropped off. Look at the JMM fight if you want to see the last prime PBF fight.
The correct answer, plus with this being his longest camp and being in great shape, he's going to look great.
This His hand speed and reflexes have declined significantly...I am concerned about him fighting 6 more times
I guess you can say that , But hes still a very difficult fighter to defeat . Even a past prime Floyd is better than most current fighters today .
I think that's just eating into the hype and ignoring the warning signs. He is getting hit more and more and being backed into the ropes easy now. How many older fighters on the decline brag about how they have had a great training camp and are looking like there old selves again? We have heard this before by many great fighters. The signs are their that Mayweather is on the decline and nobody should be shocked if he loses.
He might be on the decline but its gonna take a hell of a lot better fighter than Robert Guerrero or anyone else for that matter to beat him.
He got hit more and didn't look as invincible against Cotto, because of Cotto. Sure, he's declining, but not at a rate where he'll be threatened by the current crop of welterweights. Guerrero will make him look a million dollars once again.
Church. I think a lot of these young fans, or stans, just don't get it. No one is superhuman. Floyd will decline and lose. And if you've been following the game long enough you can see the signs. They've been there since the Oscar fight actually, but that was more a result of him moving up which caused him to lose a little something. He's been in steady physical decline since and including the Mosley fight.
Or Cotto is a really good fighter. There's always that. Besides a few of the middle rounds its one of my favorite Mayweather performances.
