I'm no complete boxing expert, so I'd like to hear from some of the more knowledgable boxing fans on how to break down PBF's shoulder roll. How & what would you do to negate this shoulder roll tactic???:huh
You could watch James Toney vs Roy Jones Jr and watch for yourself how Jr dealt with it. Another good one to watch is Ray Leonard vs Mayweather Sr. Of course Leonard and Jones Jr are not the norm and it's not like an average or even good fighter could do what they did.
Jabs & feints won't win you a fight, but if it helps set up some power shots, then thats the way to go.
Funnily enought, back in my less than stellar amateur days, the shoulder roll came kinda naturally to me. Just seemed the logical way to defend. I mean,it alkl deoends on how good you are at it too. Berto used to it TERRIBLE effect against Guererro and got landed on all night. It wasnt his natural style at all.
The left hook is the key.. :deal The hook should be fast and powerful because if its not, you'll definitely eat a right straight.. But if you have the heart, durability, and size of Margarito you can press Mayweather on the ropes to limit the area where he can roll with your punches.. Of course, its easier said than done..
You would need a quick jab straight right. The jab would make the fight roll one direction, may even move his hand to parry the shoot, and there by creating a opening for a fast right hand to the head or body. Floyd was tagged like this by Mosley and Judah and was hurt by both. Mosely http://i.minus.com/icOuu81XbthQO.gif Judah http://i47.tinypic.com/28rgn75.gif
^Looks like he kind of went at an angle. I like the .gifs you guys are posting; they are really showing FMJ's weaknesses.
