Boxing pay

Training camp in the US. They might have gone away to a place like Big Bear, rented a house, flights there. Then 2 weeks in the UK theybwould need hotels, gym hire etc.

 

hes got 2.8 million dollars out of it so far. very smart and mature move. stops him going mad and protects if he does.

not enough to keep him living like a king but keeps him comfortable

 

I know a novice pro who turned over a few years back. Got £500 for his first pro fight. Trainer took 10%. Obviously had his tax on top. Was told that if he could sell 20+ tickets next time out then he'd take a cut of ticket sales.

Next pro fight, same again, only this time he had travel about 90 miles to fight. Obviously couldnt sell many tickets it being that far away. So no ticket sale bonus.

Third fight, same again, only this time he had to travel about 180 miles. So not only did he not take many fans (ie sell many tickets) but he also had to pay about £150 in train fares.

He never had a fourth fight.

Manny was previously both his trainer and manager, so I suspect it was done on a fight by fight basis. Early on I suspect Manny took nothing/little, but as McClellan became more successful, I suspect the cut was a lot bigger.

 

Manny and Gerald had an acrimonious split prior to the Benn fight though, right?

The top heavyweights in the 60s and 70s were getting paid in the millions when they fought each other. Ali - or at least the people who controlled him - got paid more 40 years ago than Brock Lesnar did in the late 2000s/early 2010s.

That's the harsh reality of pro boxing at the moment. But at the end of the day, unless you are an outstanding talent or 'opposition', then why would a promoter put you on a bill if no one wants to come and watch you.

 

This is a shock to the system I was thinking about turning pro but these figures have put me off, don't get me wrong it's not money that is the main motivation for me to go pro but keys face it, it's a big part of it. I'd rather box for the legacy and for my country any day than the money. But when you put 110% effort into training and blood sweat and tears. For
A poxy 1000 grand a fight putting your life on the line every time you fight it's a joke seems to me boxers don't get paid enough. Lets face it your not gaurenteed to walk out the ring the way you entered every time you fight I know it's rate to be killed or seriously injured but it does happen, and has happened a lot recently **** putting my family through all that for 25k a fight. I understand about the ticket sales and tv deal sponsors etc. but it's a joke. Then you look at footballers and think WTF!!

Ill see how it goes with the amateur game but this thread alone has made me think twice and I never thought I'd say this as boxing is a big part of my life!

Understand where you coming from Gaz, but it's market forces. Boxers get paid according to demand from the public, and unfortunately, that demand is quite low these days...

 

How old are you Gaz? Whats your record?

 

Most journeymen won't get anywhere near a grand a fight, they travel around and fight for a living, thats why they just fight in suvival mode, they get stopped the can't fight for around a month.
Most pro's won't get a grand a fight until they are fighting for titles, **** pay for hard work.
