Wilder is garbage.. He's been dropped and seriously hurt by Journeymen... I'd give JDS, Hunt, Nelson and maybe even Overeem a got shot at knocking that fraud out cold.

I like both and I would have to say that fighting at the highest level in boxing is much harder.. there aren't many if any MMA fighters who could switch over to boxing and win titles, but if an elite boxer in his PRIME and not shot to **** like James Toney trained wrestling(mostly for defensive purposes) like Cro Cop did for a few years then he would be a huge threat.

I liked your response, found it funny actually.

But c'mon, the idea that there is no complexity to BJJ? Muay Thai? etc etc etc is ridiculous! Boxing is the only combat sport that has a high degree of complexity? :-( (emoticons :deal)

I can't speak for BJJ or wrestling, but I can for Muay Thai and MT is every bit as complex and then some as boxing, there's a reason they call it the science of eight limbs.

I never said that any of the sports you mentioned lack complexity.

I said that MMA is a mash-up of BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing, Kick Boxing, Sambo etc etc... And the guys who train MMA never go in depth into any of these ( excluding fighters who tranfer into MMA after accomplishing everything in another combat sport). And that is why its more simple than boxing. You just touch upon a multitude of combat sports without really mastering one. That makes MMA easier than boxing

Wait... so mma lacks complexity because no one masters the individual styles, except for those guys who make it complex by mastering the individual styles before transferring to mma...

No, MMA as a discipline is a mash up of various combat sports.

Most people who train it don't actually master a particular sport before going into MMA- they just do MMA training and become sufficiently proficient in a variety of combat sports without actually getting deep into any of them. Learning the basics of many forms of fighting is much easier than mastering one discipline.

MMA is a young combat sport so it hasn't reached a fraction of its potential. Look at boxing a 100 years ago- sure guys were tough, but they were nowhere near the technical proficiency of future boxers.

So, MMA is a mixture of fighting styles, cunningly dubbed mixed martial arts, and the people who compete in said sport are often experienced competitors or even masters from other combat disciplines?

No MMA is the sport equivalent of gay sex, and everyone who competes in MMA does so because he enjoys rolling around with men while wearing tight pants.

    That is all.

Anyways, I'm not gonna side with either party and just speak for myself.

I would say the elite levels of boxing, wrestling, muay thai and bjj are all tougher than MMA. The sport that I competed in and got to a high level at was wrestling. I actually sparred with high level MMA fighters and it wasn't as hard as wrestling the best wrestlers. In wrestling, as in all sports, you have to start young. Went I grappled the elite people who only did bjj, or only did boxing, or only did muay thai, those were all tougher than MMA.

MMA is still in its infancy and I totally expect the kids who are practicing this generation to be way tougher than the current champs.

ok IMO, boxing is like two samurais facing off with their katana in one hand and their short sword in the other. It takes more practise and skill to be better at one thing. It's also more unforgiving against a more talented or skilled opponent.
It's more taxing from a concentration point of view, more romanticised and arguably more honorable.

MMA on the other hand is like two ninjas fighting, each has their own skills and tricks. You have to watch out for different manuvers or styles the other may have.
It takes more overall skill but it lacks mastery in any particular art. It also gives people more of a chance against someone more skilled.
It's arguably more effective in a street fight but it's also a jack of all trades rather than a master of one.

Can't really compare the two imo. Either one can beat the other, what matters is who is better with their respective skills and more deadly.

    I don't know about "harder".

IMO, it's like the difference between NASCAR and rallycar racing.

Is NASCAR easier, because you only drive on one terrain, in a circle?
Or is it harder because you have to develop more complex training and strategies/execution to do something that's technically, simpler - and do it better than everyone else?

    It's not an apples-apples comparison.

That's why this debate always sparks a lot of heated opinions, but hardly draws any conclusive or intelligent conclusions.

One athlete from one discipline will always find it harder to go from one to the other.

The thing is, all of boxing is encompassed in MMA..

MMA IS Muay Thai, Boxing, BJJ, Grecco, Judo, etc.. YOU just haven't quite gotten it yet.

boxing it's not part of MMA, it's like saying wrestling is part of boxing because sometimes boxers clinch.

It is. Boxers would benefit a lot from going out of their comfort zone and doing some type of grappling. Hayes a regular grappler and wlad wrestled in his younger days and I feel this is a big reason there so adept at tying up.

Boxings definitely a part of mma idk why you'd say it's not
