David Price vs. Tony Thompson II - "REDEMPTION" (build up and prediction thread)

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by craney91, May 2, 2013.

  1. Yeah the importance of the result makes this a great nights boxing though doesn't it

Looking forward to this,a big noisy crowd that will be collectively shitting it

Could be a great night in Liverpool if David gets the bandwagon going again

I think he will be tentative and not throw power punches without thinking,I think you will see more work from behind the jab.as regards the leaving himself exposed it shouldn't matter too much about holding back on the power as he holds great power even with arm shots so David remains dangerous even whilst being overly cautious,he has to recognise that

After a couple of close rounds I think David's confidence will return s little courtesy of receiving and dealing with a couple of flush shots then confident he doesn't have too much to worry about will start to walk Thompson down.he has to be careful because of thompsons counterpunching and southpaw stance but I fancy a stoppage victory in about 8 rounds or maybe even a nervy points win

David price is a live heavyweight contender and the stick he has received since his loss was over the top

Looking forward to this one.come on big man

Price by late stoppage but I'm supporting Thompson and would like to see him Lord it again.

Vlad stopped Thompson two times by knockout. However, Thompson is the best American heavyweight out there. He is a good fighter and difficult to fight. Wilder backed out of a fight with Thompson, good thing he did. Thompson would knock Wilder out and Wilder knows it, at least his handlers do.

Price is doing the right thing, it shows he has the guts.

He will reverse the result even if the fight is very safety first.

Personally I don't think Price has the experience to beat Tony, should have had a couple more before this rematch.Tony took some huge shots in the first fight and remained calm looking for that one punch, expect much of the same tbh

I applaud Price for wanting to get right back in the mix, erase the blip, and continue on as before.

I think he'll beat Thompson this time, though I doubt it'll be pretty. Late TKO or "nervy points win" seem about right to me. He just needs to avoid getting caught with anything silly.

I critiqued Price but I really hope he does well. Its crazy how people try and make a statement out of other fighters like Tyson wanted to do with Cunningham until it went a bit wrong and Wilder did against Audley when the most dominant heavy weight champs ever bide there time and usually take people out late.

The best "boxer" ever in my opinion (Floyd) and probably the one that has earned most $$ also calmly takes people out late or UD and shows people how to box..

There shouldn't be a rush and if Price bides his time and takes Thompson out Wlad style he will destroy him (I don't think he is any where near as good as Wlad....yet, just if he took up some of his tactics) Like someone said earlier even his arm shots would make people think twice and dishearten them. He would still get his monstrous KO's just a little later in the game.

I've just seen an interview with Thompson and I think we can discount the Tiger coming into the fight in the same poor shape as last time.

He has rehired the guy who was his conditioning coach for when he fought Wlad

This is not good news for David at all as it means second time around Thompson is treating this VERY seriously.

I'm afraid I think it will be the same result as before, because quite simply, Thompson is a much better boxer than Price has fought at a much higher level and has shown he can KO him very easily.

Silly, silly move by Maloney & Price.

I was just about to come in and say Price will do a job on him, but the above is quite worrying, actually. Still, I see Price winning like he should have done the first time.

Fair play to him for taking the fight, if he takes some big shots and comes through and wins it puts his career back on track, but we'll see I hope he does it though!

I'm expecting a very disciplined performance from Price this time It might be a little boring at times but I think Price gets the job done a wins a convincing decision.

It feels like a real make or break fight for both boxers. I respect Price for taking this on. Thompson seems to be coming in with more purpose than he had in the first fight.

It will be interesting to see if Thompson goes headhunting early or if he boxes carefully. He knows Price can bang and Price knows Thompson can ko him.

I am going for Price by ko purely on the fact he is a British fighter. Price may well prove him a genuine contender in this fight.

I remember being certain that Price would get the job done inside 4 in the last fight.

OK he was looking OK for the most part, and it may well have been a "lucky" punch. But I'm not so certain for the second fight. Not so certain at all.

Price has got suspect punch resistance and was down a lot in the am's. I won't right him of just yet unlike some people. But I do worry in this rematch, it would only be natural for him to come in eager, but also reckless, and will be even more likely to get caught again.

Tony Thompson is a smart fighter. David Price said that himself.

So thats a positive I guess, at least he knows and admits that. Thats half the battle. But saying and doing are two totally different things though.

We'll just have to wait and see on fight night. As Ice said, he has barely clocked up any rounds, and Tony Thompson won't go away to early, he is experienced and game.

My head and my gut tells me that Tony Thompson will do the same again. His power is actually very underrated and overlooked, and if he comes in like he says, fitter and stronger, then David could be easily fooled going into the rematch.

Slightly favor Price in the rematch.

I expect a pretty tentative fight this time out, with Price winning by late stoppage.
