Thats great, he beat a washed up Eubank, I still give him credit for it, but what did he do between 97-06, next to nothing, never tried to unify, fought to a pro Calzaghe crowd most of the time, and never beat a great fighter in his career. While you say the fighter makes the belt, I agree to an extent, but Calzaghe never challenged himself and fought a good oppenent in that 9 year stretch, anyone can win 40 some fights if there against sub par opposition, Valuev did it in the Heavyweight division.
Ol Joe will slap hisself out by the 10th and then get bruttally KO in the 11th. Retirement will be announced from the Hospital. The body will be shipped back to Wales by that Tuesday after the fight.
COME ON.......debate with me, I enjoy it....but don't compare Calzaghe to Valuev.....everyone knows Calzaghe hasnt fought huge names consistently but nor did Hopkins when he made up his 20 defenses......I also think with having an U.S Promoter and being from North America makes negotiating fights with fellow Americans a lot easier than trying to set up cross continent super fights.....and Eubank wasnt all that washed up.....he gave Joe his hardest fight ever
Thats just a ******ed comment and one based on idiocy.....Corrales and Choi lost their lives recently and to say moronic comments like that is ridiculous and thoughtless.... On top of that....Hopkins has never bruatlised anyone before so shut up!
I used the comparison to Valuev because he won 43 or 44 fights straight, beating mostly C class opposition after 25 or so wins, with the occasional B or B-, being Ruiz and Barret, which sounds similar to Lacy and Kessler, who are B- and B+ themselves. Calzaghe has noone to blame but himself, he took the easy route and made tons of money in doing so by fighting to his hometown crowd, but that type of career comes at a price, his legacy or lack there of it, has been bruised, and now that he's in his mid 30's he's trying to make up for lost time, wins over Hopkins, Dawson, and Pavlik, will be enough for me to consider him a ATG, if he retires after beating Hopkins, I dont see any good Boxing historian calling him a legend, only his biggest fans think he is.
It will play a role ... no one has ever seen Joe fight at 175 ... no one knows how it will effect him ... I know it doesn't seem like much but a few pounds can seriously effect a fighter in many different ways. if i had to choose a fighter w/ an advantage I would have to choose Hopkins ... he beat the reigning and true LHW champion in Tarver and he's fought at that weight b4 ...
