Thiago Alves vs. Matt Brown (verbal agreement)

This card sounds interesting but certainly not the best fight card ever so far.

I'm skeptical.

 

Matt Brown will punch him out.

 

That's it. I expect Sonnen/Wand to be main event, if not co-main event. Either way, it hardly sounds like the best TV card of UFC ever. But yeah, that's promotion I guess.

I think Sonnen-Silva is FX/Fuel main event calibre. Not for an inaugural fox style card.

 

I don't like this one for Brown. Alves' style is kind of like his kryptonite on paper.


Think about it.. Brown, has a lot of balls, decent chin with slightly better than average recovery and killer instinct.

Alves is a short striking powerful dude who's weakness is more on the ground, or some weaknesses can be highly technical striking. He's really explosive and generally more dangerous in loose wild exchanges because he has one strike power, where Brown needs to overwhelm.

I like Avles in 2.. But I'm going to be rooting for Brown like a mofo!

 

Alves arguably the most dangerous striker in the division outside of Condit.

The best way to beat the guy is put him on his back and let him flounder.

I'm just not sure if Brown can do the job.

 

I feel bad for Alves. Pushed as a future champ. Now it seems his career is going down in a tail spin.

 

Considering what we are getting, Brown Vs Maia or Saffidine is more relevant.

Matt Brown's skill set, size and all round versatility makes him a hand full for everyone in the division.

Alves is what we know he is and always will be, an explosive striker with a grappling game of sorts.

I fancy Thiago to get inside and put Brown away early; Alves TKO1

 

Mein just stood in there with Mein and Alves is past his best. Cannot see Brown getting put away at the moment.

Brown Vs Kampmann would've been good too. Or Nick Diaz, guaranteed fun that.

Brown is durable but his chin is not what you would call granite, Mein is not a striker like Thiago Alves although I agree Alves is beyond his best years, by some way I believe.

Fighters who are generally strong in a area tend to get labelled a "striker" or a "grappler" examples would be Frank Mir as a striker; shown marked improvement on the feet since his pro debut and could be seen as a reasonable striker, Big Foot; he could not even throw a jab when he first turned pro in MMA and now holds a TKO win against Overeem with strikes. Often guys get a couple of subs in a row and become "dangerous grapplers" despite being several levels below true grapplers, Joe Stevenson, Kurt Pellegrino, Brandon Vera ................!

Alves is a proper striker, a seasoned well schooled stand up fighter, Matt Brown is a decent striker! there is a marked difference.

If Brown tries to stand up with Thiago as I suspect he will, I see him being an easy upright target designed perfectly for the short explosive neat and tidy work Alves does from medium range, I see Brown being leg kicked mercilessly as well.

Can Alves handle Brown poring in on the front foot? He has shown to be fallible when guys really get into him and make him work off his back or moving backwards, its easier said than done though, and Brown will eat some big shots, punches, kicks and knee's.

 

Brown's use of Muay Thai has improved in recent showings, he's workmanlike in his approach but inventive and very dangerous.

At this stage I see him out Thiago Alves-ing- Alves.

 

Thats an interesting take

If Brown can take up the centre of the cage and out score Thiago Alves using Muay Thai I'll be very surprised.
