Is SR better for JR's career?

I saw a difference. The myth about his legs being gone has been debunked. SR has him jabbing more, moving more, and getting off the ropes quicker. It's an interesting question because I think this preserves his career, but will less action-packed fights hurt his reputation with the casuals, thus making his fights less compelling to watch? What may be good for preserving his career might be bad business. Thoughts?

And yes, I think SR is clearly a much better trainer than Uncle Roger. As Paulie pointed out, Uncle Roger was generally a more offensive-minded boxer and SR was more defensive-minded as a fighter. JR is probably split a bit between the two as a fighter but still fights more similarly and more defensively like his father. The more he favors that side the better.

Am I over-thinking this, taking too much credit away from Cotto? I don't think so. It's not that Cotto didn't press Mayweather well to the ropes. It's just in Mayweather's inclination to have himself with his back to the ropes because he's comfortable trying to lure fighters in, countering them off the ropes. He's super competent on the inside. He did it against Cotto, and even did it a lot in fights where he moved, such as the Oscar fight.

    Thoughts?

I think Cotto deserves some credit for bringing the fight to Floyd and making him seem old. Floyd's feet and general slickness looked much much better..Almost mid 2000s Floyd against Guerrero. If Sr. had a lot to do with that, then he's got Floyd on a great track.

Floyd can fight with just a stool in his corner and he would do just fine.

The thing is Roger is still involved and part of the training. He has them both and Floyd Sr may be better for him in the corner bc he is going to give tons of advice. Roger always gives advice to all the other guys he trains but with Floyd its usually "keep boxing that mother****er." Roger is the one watching tapes and helping too so we have to give him some credit.

Floyd sr is a much better trainer than Roger, when Roger took over you see Floyd getting bloodied up from Emmanuel Augustus that never happened before with sr in Floyd's corner. If Floyd sr was in Jr's corner for the Cotto fight Floyd would have never gotten that bloody nose or take any shots.

Roger wanted Floyd to be more offensive minded and to let them hands go. Roger was that way when he fought. Floyd got a lot of his offense from Roger including that right hand.

I think uncle Roger was having Floyd thinking about being a people's champ, standing in front of opponent and winning in a crowd friendly way as in Floyd/ Mosley. I like Floyd fighting like that, personally. I think Sr. is telling his son to just be himself in there and let his gay come through. This might be more liberating for Floyd as he seems to think about his haters too much. Now he could just be the fabulous gay summabitch he is and run from pillar to post and all's good. :good

At this point in his career, I dont really think it matters who trains him.

As long as hes able to motivate himself, thats all that matters.

I dont Roger or Snr can tell him anything at this point that he doesnt already know.

Floyd's fundamentals are better with his father in the corner. It can be argued, though, that he might not be getting a guaranteed 30 million per fight if he hadn't also adapted Roger's style.

Snr was brilliant last night "he's not in your league Son, just keep doing what your doing" or words to that effect.

Floyd Jnr was never out of cruise control.
