For days i am reading comments like......ohh Floyd is gonna force Alvarez to a catchweight and make sure he is drained.......ohh Floyd is gonna offer him the usual 2.5 M and use that as an excuse to fight Alexander........ So Floyd sold around 900k with the Ghost and without Archie on his undercard. Showtime needed 1.2 Ms to break even so they lost a lot of money on may 4th. Archie sold 40 k tickets against Trout and makes 2-3 Million on regular Showtime. He is on his way to become Mexicos number one draw. The thing is that Floyd and Showtime need Alvarez for september 14th more than Alvarez needs them. There is no oponent on September 14th for Floyd, the 140lbs guys arent ready, Marquez and Bradley fighting each other and Khan is still on shaky legs. If i am Archie i ask for 8 Million and no catchweight, take it or leave it. Canelo can headline his own PPV with Cotto and sell 450-500k on PPV and make the same money.
****, now is going to be the build up of some limited fighter. Bunch of newbs calling them 'young and hungry'. Only fight that is a challenge for PBF is Martinez at 154 or 160, or Pacman at 147.
leave it .. Al is a Hype at 154, when he starts dominating fighter at 160 as well as 154 can he demand something like that .. The only real name he has under his belt is Trout and to be honest no knew who Trout was until the Cotto fight.
IMO Alvarez is the biggest challenge for Floyd at the moment. I dont think Pac will fully recover from that KO and Martinez looked like crap against Murray. Floyd has problems with bigger opponents who can bully him, just watch the Cotto fight. And Alvarez is bigger, faster and more powerful than Cotto at this moment.
His money is guaranteed but he has to deliver numbers. Showtime/CBS is not gonna sit there and watch him doing 800-900k PPV and lose them money.
He might be overhyped but he has something that nobody at 140-147 has, a big following who is willing to drop 70 bucks to see him fight.
