I was wondering why floyd never fought casamayor. Was it due to promotional companies or anything. I think this would have been a great test for floyd. Any of you recall why these 2 great fighters did not fight?

Joel was not in Floyd's radar. Floyd was too busy chasing the big names. At the time he wanted prince hamed, Kostya, Oscar, and Shane. Plus i don't think Joel was interested either. He was busy trying to stay champion against corrales and castillo.

I thought their paths just never really aligned to make it both possible and meaningful. Floyd moved up in weight and Casamayor had good fights to make in his own division.

When was a good window? 2006?

i think they could have crossed paths in 2004 and 2005 as they both fought a lightweight

By the time Casamayor was a top 10 Lightweight in 2004-2005, Floyd had already moved up to 140.

It would have made sense in 2000 or 2001, as Floyd was lineal champ at 130 and Casamayor had entered the consensus top 5 of the division. Floyd instead fought the guy who writers had elevated above Floyd in Corrales in 2001, and also capped off that year 3-0 with wins over top 5 ranked Jesus Chavez and perennial top 10 ranked Carlos Hernandez.

I know Mayweather at least publicly called out Casamayor, as he did also at the time for Freitas, Hamed, Mosley, Kostya, etc.

That fight should've taken place around 2001-2002. I remember thinking mayweather, corrales, casamoyor, and frietas being the top fighters at 130 at that time regardless of what the rankings showed. I believe casamayor and frietas fought in 2002. Mayweather fought chavez and hernandez after he destroyed corrales at 130 in 2001.

Although it would have been nice to see mayweather fight casamoyor and frietas instead , i don't think it was a duck like I think he's been guilty of at higher weight classes. And before I get called a mayweather hater or ******* for that last sentence I think prime mayweather schools prime PAC. Just calling it like I see it.
