Mccallum was an ATG imo, the best out of those mentioned int he thread title. Wins over Julian Jackson, Milton McCrory, Donald Curry, Graham, Wataon, Collins, Harding, Kalmaby and a draw with Toney, a fight which i though he won. Three world titles in 3 weight division, and one of the finest technician's of the modern era. Thats no ordinary career

Bare in mind this was pre-McCallum/Watson, Mike's finest ever performance when he was at his absolute best. He was struggling with Graham and Collins (towards the end) and being schooled by Curry and Kalambay, and Julian Jackson had him on ***** street, holding on for dear life. But he found his '82-'85 form again and then some against Watson, the 2nd fight with Sumbu and the 2 James fights.

Probably Christopher didn't know McCallum was that good, having only seen him struggle.

Although, to be fair, Eubank thought Watson was 'stiff, poor, average' at the time, and post-McCallum/Watson stated that Herol Graham had a '55% chance' of beating him on points, Michael Nunn had a '45% chance' of beating him on points, and no other fighter had a '15% chance' of beating him at all.

He was young, and spoke of unifying the titles and only fighting Graham if he was mandatory or if he was offered a million. At that point, it was reported he was going to be fighting Julian Jackson for the vacant WBC title followed by McCallum or Duran, and dismissed Nigel Benn as a 'cardboard champion'. Interesting when looking back.

Mike wasn't at his absolute best against Watson in my opinion.

I think you're being a little biased here.

Herol was a world class fighter, who had fantastic skills. He was a southpaw who Eubank has admitted to never wanting to face.

I'm sure that you're aware that they sparred together in Sheffield, and Eubank couldn't hit him.

    Mike didn't struggle with Collins.

Kal and Curry were great fighters, and I wouldn't use the word schooled.

Jackson had huge power, but we know what the outcome was.

Eubank would have know exactly how great Mike was.

Again I don't when exactly Chris said this, and in what context.

    Have you got a link?

Every interview I've ever seen, he was always very honest and respectful of others.

Maybe he was just trying to hype himself up?

I don't believe for a second that he was serious when he said he could take Mike out like that.

Even if he was serious, I don't believe for a second that he could have pulled it off.

Saying that "He was young" pretty much sums all of this up.

He was young, confident and ambitious.

It was all bravado trying to hype himself.

He never fought Jackson, Nunn or Mike, and admitted he wanted no part of Herol.

As he got older, he said that he never pushed for the big fights (against the big names from the U.S.) and we know that he had a tremendous amount of respect for Nigel.

So I'll give him a pass for being young and brash.

It's on the ITV highlights of McCallum-Collins following the Tyson-Douglas upset, Eubank is interviewed ringside about halfway through.

It was McCallum's finest performance. And considering Watson was the betting favourite probably makes it MM's finest hour, with the exception of the Curry KO.

Herol was very awkward, but highly inexperienced against world-class operators - the first he ever met, Kalambay, he lost to via landslide schooling. Herol humiliated Mike for seven rounds straight.

Eubank knocked Herol clean out after taking time to adjust to his style. A young Naseem Hamed thought he was dead.

Mike was running away from a highly unskilled 16-fight Collins in the last few rounds.

Kalambay and Curry weren't 'great', because neither ever overcome true adversity when the stakes were high. They were, however, very, very, very good! So good that they were running away with it against Mike.

Julian had huge power and one more clean blow would've been goodnight to Mike, but the referee gave a premature stoppage with Julian on his feet ready to go on.

Why are they packaged that way?

Nunn sparking SK in 1 is probably the best W out of the lot.

    Lewis/Holyfield were better than Marciano/Walcott!!

    We'll agree to disagree. :good

    They were both great fighters.

You know Herol has always denied getting knocked out. I've heard he got knocked down on two occasions, but he frustrated the hell out of Eubank.

Herol was world class, despite him failing to win a version of the world title. He was unlucky, because he was easily good enough to be champion. He'd def be a champ if he was around today in my opinion.

Graham would've schooled Eubank and Eubank knows it.

According to Herol, Chris said that he'd never fight him.

It's funny though when you watch the preview of Graham-Jackson, Eubank is interviewed and says, 'If he (Herol) wins that WBC title, I'll have to, I'll have to fight him.'

And in post-fight interview of his supernatural performance against Denys Cronin, 'Herol Graham is the only fighter in this country who can touch me. I would say that I am the only fighter in Europe who probably can beat this man - I know how. I have to know how.'

    That's very interesting.

I wish they were both fighting today. I think you had to be a real fan to appreciate Herol. He was definitely underappreciated.

He was better than Sergio Martinez.
