It's not I seen it a good while ago. I know this particular vid was uploaded 2 days ago but I seen it roughly a year ago or that.

Considering he walks with a stick and supposedly had a stroke, and is in his 50, Lockridge is still nails.

To those who know him for the, admittedly hilarious, 'Best Cry Ever', I implore you to review footage of this man, sparking Roger Mayweather's '0' away from him before anyone knew he couldn't take a punch, and arguably beating Pedroza years before McGuigan did. He wasn't perfect, the usually non-punching Laporte blasted him (Laporte had one of the greatest chins ever BTW, check him out) but he was robbed against Wilfredo Gomez, and also had tremendously fun fights with Tony Lopez (in BN's recent '100 Greatest Fights' special) and Boza Edwards (on my channel)

Trained by defensive savant George Benton, Lockridge was a well-rounded fighter who could punch, was resilient, and able to adapt. Brilliant fighter if not an all-time great.

 

The Laporte result is odd when you consider that, as you said, Laporte wasn't an exceptional puncher yet Lockridge went the distance with Chavez, Gomez and others. It was definitely an anomaly, so maybe there was an external reason behind that performance?

 

That's the fight game, sometimes you can just just get copped by a good shot, specially early.

Lockridge could be hurt though, and as AlFrancis says, it happens, and has happened to even more exceptionally tough fighters than Lockridge and quicker.

For example, Boza dropped him heavily in the first round. I won't say Lockridge was always a slow starter though, he wasn't bothered by Pedroza until late in the fight, so it's just one of those things at the top level.

 

Look at Ottke, hardly a puncher.

But look at the Mundine fight!!!
