Is it me or do Puerto Rican fighters have a particular penchant for quitting. Calderon quit twice against Segura, Cintron quits virtually every fight, Cotto quit against Margarito etc. I thought they had the Latin Machismo that Mexican fighters have, who never quit and usually always go down swinging.

Anyone that calls Cotto a quitter for the Margarito fight is a disgrace. He took 11 rounds of been hit by a man with concrete in his gloves. His face & nose were a mess & he's never been the same fighter since.

    Have a bit of respect

He didn't have concrete in his gloves. He had traces of ingredients that could form plaster of Paris. Oh, and that was when he fought Mosley.

    He folded under pressure.

Actually come to think of it, it is they fold under pressure, like Wilfredo Vazquez did against Arce, Lopez folded against Salido.

Cotto took a brutal beating for 11 rounds, certainly beyond what most other fighters would be able to take. Nothing wrong with taking a knee, when another round could have done him serious damage.
And if you're doubting his heart over that look at all the other time she's proven his mettle, survives being hurt badly by both Judah and Corley to come back and stop his man, survived two knockdowns to stop Torres in a tough war, went the majority of the Clottey fight with a huge gash, and came back to win, Cotto's a warrior.

As to the people who are doubting whether Margarito used plaster of paris against Cotto, just look at how he used it when he was fighting Mosley, who was considered an easy victory and well past his best. At the time he fought Cotto, Miguel was one of the best p4p fighters in the world, and right at the peak of his powers. It doesnt make sense for Margarito to cheat against Mosley and not Cotto.

Oh yeah, I forgot you can't say anything derogatory about boxers or boxing nations in the British forum. :dead

The fact is there have been a number high profile quit jobs from PR. This doesn't mean it exemplifies the national character, but it's certainly OK to point it out.

TBH i've always felt while more skilled the Mexicans always tend to be more war happy and tougher then the Ricans in general. The Ricans tend to be beautiful boxers, look the part and are tough boys but they have breaking points that Mexican's love to push them to .

But lets be honest every nation has fighters who jack it in when things get deep like the x files. Martinez is a tough hombre he doesn't know the word quit so they don't all quit. Cotto took a abnormal amount of punishment in the first Margarito fight and i believe his body failed him. He was spent physically and he tried to go through those walls but end of the day he knew it was done. He was going to lose whether he stayed on feet or not.
