Puerto Ricans and quitting.

Been a rough patch for their guys recently.

Last 18 months we have had

Cotto beaten by Trout.
JuanMa KO'd twice by Salido.
Vasquez Jr lost to Ishimoto.
Jonnny Gonzalez has been fat and looking crap.
Palacios beaten by Wlodarczyk twice.
Dulorme KO'd by Abregu.
Orlando Del Valle got smashed up by wee Vic.
Quintana wiped out by Thurman.
Bracero beaten by DeCorley.
Cintron is still Cintron

 

2 things. The first been that he couldn't hurt anyone post hand wraps, he looked feather fisted. The second is the face off they did with Kellerman, shows it was the same wrap.

 

Come on, did you not see the face off with Kellerman & the photo's? Maragrito's power pre & post Mosley? I'd bet my life on it

 

He folded under the pressure of loaded wraps I agree

 

Anyone who says that Cotto quit against Margarito should be ashamed off themselves and are no doubt just idiots and non boxing fans, who have no idea what its like to be hit.

Cotto showed unbelievable courage that night

 

Yeah feather fisted with a 60% ko ratio,Margarito was always a good puncher known for his work rate and pressure fighting.I think the hand wrap **** is blown a little bit out of proportion.Miguel just had a bad night and was probably expecting an easier fight.

 

Another thing I'll say about Cotto is the Pacquaio fight, he never showed any quit in that & took a lot more shots than he did against Margarito. Cotto & the word quit don't belong together

 

It was Cotto's legs that let him down in the Margarito fight.

Plus, it'd be nigh on impossible for plaster of paris to form a suitably hard substance to be really worth bothering with. I'm not condoning it because it is cheating, but any perceived effect would be minimal.

It's certainly in no way comparable with the Resto/Lewis incident.

Plaster of Paris would need to be put into your wraps in a careful manner - not enough and it won't have any effect, too much and you won't be able to get enough of a sweat on to make it react.... and then it's got to start going off - which it won't without an air supply to it.

 

There was pre-hardened pad in Antonio's wrap, which is where the residue came from. It was where the normal soft padding was and would have made a difference to how the shots impacted.

 

definatly agree with this... he showed even more courage just accepting the rematch, always enjoyed watchin margarito but it was sweet watchin cotto put a beating on him,

both were great fights, shame about tonys eye, wish they could of finished off the triology but you could tell margarito wasnt the same after the beatin mosely put on him (im one of those who doesnt believe he cheated his whole career)

 

The post is trying to suggest that there is a correlation between quitting and Puerto Rican boxers and is somehow suggesting a defect in national character. If you want to criticize an individual boxer fine but not a nation or country. That is going to far.

 

Most sane people would understand that and it wouldnt need to be said, but there are plenty of dummies on here who lap up ridiculous stereotyping such as this.

 

Gasman we don't always agree as well you know but as a real boxing man I appreciate all posters even those who disagree with me as it serves as a check to me to see whether what I am seeing or thinking is correct. In prize fights small details are important and when you wear dual hats you must see things from different perspectives be it manager, fan, trainer, promoter etc. Whilst not a lot shocks me frankly the tone of this post about Puerto Rican boxers shocked me. This is a nation that has produced so many great determined warriors and champions. What next was the guy who started this post going to say Papa Don Felix Trinidad and Tito Trinidad quit against Bernard Hopkins! Incidentally the other thing that shocked me was the trash talking between Broner and Malignaggi and the references to the lady Jessica. I actually liked both Paulie and Adrian before this but this lady Jessica who I don't knowsurely did not deserve to be referred to as weekend *****. This goes against the grain as far as I concerned. Call me old fashioned but there are standards.
