If Hobson is prepared to virtually sign over his economic rights to Matchroom for that fight it could happen yes.

The WBU is a proper world title as well then. In fact it's more of a world title because it has world in it's name. The IBF is more like an International title, kinda similar to the WBC International championship than John Simpson won when he beat Choi, except that was a Silver WBC International championship. Kind of similar to how Tony Bellew is the WBC Silver Light Heavyweight Champion because..

It's a massive shame, It shouldnt never have been scheduled on same night as Burns or if it was it shouod have been as co-main event. Sky had previously his previous fights building up to the world title. Then not show the actual title fight..:huh

Thanks everyone who decided this fight should be on same night diff chanell as PPV...shocking.

Real shame it couldn't have been on the Friday night.

So Froch is a paper champ then?

  8. If you were being pedantic you could argue that both he and Kessler are paper champions with Andre Ward being the legit super middleweight champion of the world.

The point he was making was that the IBF was not a recognised belt though.

All the alphabet straps are worthless pieces of ****, every one of them poxy sanctioning bodies is fuelled by greed, corruption and bias, and they devalue the term ''world champion'' and makes a mockery of it. Any one who thinks any differently is a ****ing moron.

  11. I think the point being made is that the title McDonnell won was a paper title, in that it was a vacant belt contested between two fighters not in most people's top 10 for the division before the fight.

Yes. Although he's obviously beaten boxers at a much higher level than Jamie McDonnell has.

Was this fight not made because Leo Santa Cruz moved up in weight and vacated this title, from what I read Mcdonnel was happy to face Santa Cruz.

Seems harsh to tarnish him a paper champ, probably the same people who say Haye was a paper champ. Yes there are many different titles but the main 4 are accepted titles in the modern world of boxing.

  14. Yes it is harsh to devalue what he has achieved.

He wouldn't have been happy afterwards.

Haye was a paper champ. His title was complete bull****.

I don't mean to knock Jamie McDonnell here at all btw (or Haye). It's not their fault, it's how boxing works and they've done well to achieve what they have. But it's still not right.
