It was the Burns uppercut. His legs never recovered. He tried bombing Burns out but couldnt. Why do you think his corner kept rubbing his legs. They had gone.
The uppercut for me aswell, saw the visible change in his legs, Burns ended that round on top, they were at his legs before round 8 and 9 aswell as before 10 which he never came out for.
It's not that much of an elephant in the room. Gonzalez had a glaring opportunity in front of him to win on Saturday and he passed it up. Wrist injury or not, you are rounds up with a few to go against a guy you're supposedly well in control of...use your other hand? At least...try? Thats an elephant in the room more than what happens in a rematch. If by "much better boxer" we mean only those attributes that allow us to dominate the technical aspects of a fight, the distance, the jab, upper body movement, a little more imagination, hell even throw in the physical skillset that Gonzalez enjoyed a great edge in. The complete boxer has an arsenal far greater than those things, they include stamina, durability, toughness, even those cliche ideas like "coming through adversity." We don't need any better demonstration of why these things are so crucial than Saturday night. A fighter with those things does not give up in a situation like Gonzalez was in.
Theres video of him getting off the plane in PR with a cast on his arm so I wouldn't be too quick to call it bull**** as such. I think that ring rust played a large part in Burns poor performance, but also Gonzalez showed for large parts of the fight that he was just a better boxer....Jim Watt had it right when he said post fight "Ricky Burns just beat a better boxer"
hmmm, to be honest If I was going back to South America after quitting in a world title fight, I'd get a ****ing cast on it to make it look real. There's genuinely no signs in the fight that he hurt it, just that he looks ****ed.
Agree with the above but a few people around the arena were wondering how much was in the brown paper bag?
If I was Eddie Hearn I would milk Ricky Burns as long as possible in Scotland against fighters like Reese and Murray. Then throw him to the lions once the public have had enough. Good thing that wasn't Vasquez in there last night, could have been a total embarrassment for The Rickster!
