jeff powells report on the jamie mcdonnell world title fight was shocking in The Daily Mail today.... he never watched the fight ( surely his job) but said he had heard it had been a 'torrid fight' ... he loves a jolly to vegas but he cant be arsed to watch a 45 minute fight , after all he is there boxing correspondent... surely he had all day yesterday to watch it.... even fast forward through it ...but admit aint bothered watching it is ridicoulous.

There was no preview at all on Saturday in the Mail of Burns or McDonell's fights yet Powell has been all over Khan in there for the last fortnight. Could've at least put a brief mention in there. Then again Jeff wouldn't exactly go out of his way for Hobson or Hearn given his taste in dining companions

was interesting when Kugan Cassius was doing his round up of the Mayweather Vegas trip, he said he didn't see Jeff Powell at any of the press events.

It's embarrassing. Thankfully these media dinosaurs from the pre-internet days are becoming extinct. Powell has only ever been used to covering top events (all his paper has room for in print edition)

It's quite unbelievable that he is still being flown to Las Vegas to cover these events, for a quick write-up in the Monday edition, you would imagine the Press Association could pick up the slack of his limited contribution.

Even if you're not a Kugie Bear fan, you have to appreciate he went to Vegas and worked his nuts off, providing the modern day boxing fan with reams of relevant content from a variety of fighters. With the internet, legal streams and plenty of Boxing on TV, many fans are as excited about up and comers than established stars. For instance this weekend I cannot wait to see Matthysse vs Peterson, a fight which has been built up with the ability to see both fighters extensively and have access to them in recent years.

Powell showed his colours (which is a yellow tie by the way) with his pathetic piece on Haye. Big deal he never let you in, we didn't have to have a 'this is your life' piece about all the famous boxers you have met.

Powell wont be missed when he calls it a day.

When I did Alvarez-Hatton in Anaheim Powell was awesome to have around. He drove, was well respected by everyone who mattered and had loads of quality stories. #justsaying

Powell was one of the few British hacks who didnt cheerlead and called fights involving Brits more or less as most of the neutrals did. i.e. Anthony Joshua, Oggogo et al. He rapidly went up in my estimation after that.

It's a tough life when your employer pays for you to go on jollies without understand what it is you're doing.

*Sent from my shiny laptop in a four-star hotel on a jolly.

Powell's best scoop came back in 1977 when he caught Don Revie on a plane to the UAE.

It's all been downhill since then.
