Jones won that fight clearly and this fight proves that coming back down was hard for him and his body. Never in the history of his career had you seen him tired in a fight. He was breathing heavy and even when Tarver wasn't doing anything at all Roy would throw a few shots and start breathing heavy like he was out of shape. Roy is my favorite fighter of all time for me and all my family and I was blessed and spoiled rotten to have seen him live 17 times even in the early stages of his pro career. I wish he would have walked away after that Ruiz fight or at least took some time off after the first Tarver fight just to let his body heal. That **** broke my heart when he lost to Tarver in that 2nd fight. I was so mad I use to play fight night and beat the **** out of Tarver. Lmao
This fight is very underrated. I had Jones winning 7-4-1, Tarver really put it on Jones in some rounds and looking back it's shocking his chin held up.
Where would Jones have ranked had he retired after winning the lt hw title after capturing a hw belt ? Don't know too many fighters that did that.
****, you saw him live 17 times? That's crazy! I had to order VHS tapes from the back pages of Boxing Monthly to see him. That must have been incredible! Have you ever met him?
Jones had a damn good chin. Hell he even took some shots from Ruiz who hit harder than Tarver, and Johnson and Roy. I tell people that all the time and they try to say Ruiz is not a big puncher. Well Ruiz put Holyfield on his ass and Holyfield took Tyson's punches.
My dad, mom and brothers were crazy about Roy. Plus being in Tx anad having a dad that loved to drive we drove over to Florida, Mississippi, in his early days all the time. I got posters, career sets, t shirts, all kinds of ****. (no homo)
jones was like 190 fight night against ruiz. all this he was draining himself to come back down in weight is nonsense.roy struggled to put on weight for that fight.he was talking about it leading up to the fight. it was just an excuse for roys performance. there was a roycott for a reason. roy loved the cherry pick
Yep. I think people was surprised how close it was because Jones was in beast mode for years before the fight.
So explain to me how he was tired as **** half way through the fight then when he never in his life was fatigued in the ring? Physically he wasn't the same when he came back down and even said he felt like a 7 in the locker room before the fight. He even said in a ringside interview at the Gainer vs Marquez fight that it has been the hardest for him to lose weight and he was struggling to get back down..
same people saying weight had nothing to do with roy jones having a hard time are the same that wanna believe bhops wouldn't break home boys jaw all over again if he didn't come in chubby from the rocky 6 movie
He was a solid 196 with hardly any body fat. He had to get from 196 down to 175 for the weigh in. He lost around 10 pounds of actual muscle fibre, not fat. Go and look at the difference in his physiques.
