The requests for box-offs is no point Barnes and Nevin would cause war if the had to Box-off as been olympians and Sean Turner is injured with broken ankle.
Didnt he get beaten up by John Joe Nevin in the final last year at 56 kg. No shame in that like, he must be improving since. Good rangy boxer IIRC, bit like Nolan. Strong squad overall, id be surprised if we dont get four or five medals out of it tbh
Btw it says on boxrec that Philip Sutcliffe Jr will be fighting debutant Liam Finn from Mayo next. Anyone ever know anything about Finn?
My brother was helping him out in the gym (hes got a sports science degree) apparently Michael just wanted time away from boxing. As BK says hes focusing on body building. In March I was talking to the lad that runs St Marys and he seems optimistic of Michael making a return. Not sure how optimistic I am
Not sure about McComb the only time I've seen him he was KD'd and the irish corner threw the towel in (he was back up and looked ok to continue) this was in the first round so didnt see enough to form an opinion on the boy
Not really. Lots of countries national titles are 8 rOunders in fact. You need to have had an 8 round fight to fight for the Celtic, Irish and British titles and this title is effectively a stepping stone to those titles and give 8 round fights (which are expensive) some more meaning.
He was beating nevin in that fight until the last round when nevin dropped him with a superb shot, Nevin only won by a point. Mccomb is a lovley boxer .

Spot on Moorser. That fight is actually on youtube. I think he was getting confused, as Nevin did destroy his opponent in last year's final, but that was Michael Nevin, another very tall lad for his weight. And as for the KO in McCombs fight last week, I think he beat the same fella 2 days previously in Cork. As far as I can gather he was just caught with one good shot and the towel was thrown in as a precaution with the Euros so soon after.
Thats good to hear would like to see Michael return to the National championships I have serious doubts about him internationally.
Are they bringing back the 10 point must system in the amateurs. I know the headgears are gone. Just read it on the scene.
