Question For BJJ Practitioners Regarding Self Defense

As a judoka surely you know this. Not all throws are 100% some are more high percentage than others. If you attempt to throw someone with higher skills then yourself you are probably going to be reversed. If not reversed then the throw will be stuffed and then they will follow up on the unbalanced person.

I realised a while ago that I am not going to get my wish and unfortunately my Daughter is going to eventually grow up and go out on the **** ! My daughter is 7 and has done BJJ for a couple of months and yes I am hopeing she keeps it up for the exact seem reason mentioned in the OP ! I haven't read through the replies but what you have to realise is that in an attack the ****** is likely to punch or do some type of damage in the initial attack ? Something they would not of experienced in Ju Jitsu ! Don't get me wrong I've put my Daughter in BJJ as I think it's the best chance for a woman to escape but its not full proof ! I think Judo isn't a bad idea for a girl either ?

 

MMA is wholly applicable to real life. You just cater for the situation you are in. If you are against the cage, will you attempt an impractical move? No! Likewise, if you are in the street, gym, office, bar and find yourself in an altercation you make the necessary adjustments.

The reality is, someone who really knows how to fight (even a woman in just BJJ) will wreck the life of someone who doesn't.

Street fighter comes in for wild tackle, standing guillotine, job done.

Most submissions don't need to be completed against an unskilled attacker. You think if you get an RNC from behind that you have to hook your legs in or a body triangle? Just the neck choke will ensure panic from the receiver within 1 or 2 seconds.

The mind is certainly programmed to operate in a certain way but I've heard similar stupidity about a boxer fighting on the street, like he is programmed not to punch you in the balls or headbutt you.

Undoubtedly one of the best martial arts for a woman to learn is BJJ. Once she reaches a certain level there is very little a man of almost any size can do, unless they too know how to fight. The disparity would be huge to make up the skill gap. For example a man really can't get big enough to stop the terror coming their way if they encounter Rousey.
