A Ricky Hatton v2. Basically James DeGale or Tyson Fury. Hearn would make a real statement if he can poach those two. IMO they are the brightest sparks in British boxing, because people know who they are having been on terrestrial television. They both have talent, and they can both sell a fight, acting like dickheads or not, they can talk a good game, and thats crucial in the sport of boxing. They dont care if you hate them, as long as you tune in. Promoting in this country is so small time now compared to what it used to be like. The domestic scene is better than anywhere else and it shits all over the US, but nobody knows who the fighters are apart from Boxing fans. Years and years ago fighters were household names in this country. Get boxing back on 1 to 5 I say. Start getting these boxers noticed, have a few fights on 1 to 5, then start fighting on Sky. Be freelance. Boxing needs to evolve and move with the times. Even Devon Alexander is pointing and laughing at Lee Purdy in the stare down. Who is he?
Bellew is the only real dud for me out of those 3 and even then, the scousers are probably gullible enough to keep paying to go watch him. Barker, to me at least, is very likeable and is in a fantastic division especially domestically. Brook has zero personality but depending on how his style transfers up the levels, he could be a good world champion and be in big fights.
I think he has, I know he had a shoulder injury, was talk of a comeback, but he's opened his own gym in Chorley now training pros and amateurs and he makes enough from his security business so he doesn't need the money.
Never mind. “@EddieHearn: Lee Purdy couldn't shift the final .5lbs - fight goes ahead with Alexander - if Lee wins he will fight for vacant title next”
DeGale? He wasn't a star at any point, even after winning gold. But no one else, I'm afraid. He's a lovely guy and I enjoy when he appears on Sky talking about the fights, but he doesn't draw. He's not massively exciting and he's just a nice bloke, not a character. But I don't think he will. And, again, his lack of personality will stop him from being a star.
He kept whining about Groves something fierce in the press conference. Nothing humble about that *****.
Just hope its going ahead as normal.Lee didn't deserve a shot in the first place, but who are we to begrudge the lad what Im sure will be his best payday by a long way?Hell have a go but Ive a feeling it won't go past the halfway point.Alexanders a better puncher than given credit for,I think.
Skills, that Charles Atlas course is a ****er.Wouldnt like to be the idiot that kicked sand in Purdys face in Southend when he gets him.
Not a good sign this, only four weeks notice, I hope he isnt too weight drained and can last the distance.
If Purdy can only re-hydrate ten pounds then this fight is dangerous. :? Let's face it, he already sounds like he's taken too many. Did he have many un-licensed wars?
a 100% on the money Purdy has on paper little more than a 5% chance of winning. so this does him no favours. hope he puts in a good showing and can come back to the UK for a few domestic showdowns of the back of a good effort.
