Ward: It's easy for Calzaghe to say he can beat me from the comfort of his couch!

Prime Calzaghe would toy with Ward. Ridiculous hand and foot speed, incredible work-rate, ability to fight at angles and change strategies during fights easily outpoints the much more pedestrian Ward. Ward is a strong, hard-nosed fighter that can beat up slightly less skilled hard-nosed fighters like Froch. Joe would adjust to Ward's style and begin to toy with him by the middle rounds. He had Hopkins literally bent over, crawling around begging for a rest time and whipped Hopkins butt. Same with Roy, prime Kessler, Lacy and all the rest. Easy points decision for an all-time great, Joe Calzaghe.

I doubt Ward, would even have gone to England to fight Joe Calzaghe. Oakland or nothing.

    Calzaghe would mug Ward badly.

Too physical strong, even faster than Ward, better Work Rate, Tougher, Underrated slickness...

Even now Ward needs Calzaghe. Whatever u thought if Joes style, it made him hard to beat and he could change gameplan during a fight. Prime Cal takes a close decision for me.

I would pick a peak version of Joe over Ward.. I have no idea how Calzaghe would look now.. There are plenty of active fighters Ward should be more concerned about.

If Joe were to come out of retirement and fight Ward, I would have to say I would be rooting for Calzaghe for the first time I watched him fight live.

If both fighters were active and in their primes now the fight definitely wouldn't happen for the same reason Calzaghe/Ottke didn't happen. Ward wouldn't fight Calzaghe any where outside of California just like Ottke refused to fight him any where outside of Germany and Calzaghe wouldn't travel to California out of a fear of being robbed should he fight there.

So Calzaghe would content himself by making good money in easy fights against opponents that couldn't trouble him while talking bull****, and Ward would sit in Oakland complaining about other fighters getting more press than him, talking so much bull****, and being out injured half the time, leaving us with a situation where the best two fighters in the division never fought each other.

That's why he signed to fight Hopkins in 2003 only for Hopkins to phone in the very next day and demand twice the money agreed for the fight, effectively pricing himself out of it.

I like Hopkins, but he did price himself out of Jones II and Calzaghe around the same time. I think he flat out ducked Roy, I am not as familiar with the Calzaghe situation, but from what I read, it looks like he didn't want that fight then.
