This fight hinges on Mike's mental state.

If Mike has a clear head and simply focuses on boxing the D'Amato way, the fight probably won't make it past the 5th or 6th round. I think people overstate Ali's chin a little bit. Prime Tyson doesn't throw singular shots like Frazier or Big George, he'll go to work and string together complicated and lethal combinations. I don't think Ali's chin was ever tested in quite that fashion.

Of course, for all his power and skill, Tyson is usually mental train wreck. To say that Ali was mentally tougher would be a dramatic understatement. Tyson loses his nerve and will to fight when things don't come easy to him, which is exactly what Ali is going to do.

TLDR: Tyson on his best night is better than Ali on his best night, but Ali always seems to bring his A game.

Tyson would not pose the threat that Frazier posed - in fact quite the opposite. Tyson was more of an impact fighter than Frazier. Frazier burned people down - took time to get going, but once the smoke was on, there was trouble. It would be better to compare Tyson to Foreman, albeit more compact and more dangerous inside (Foreman never needed to get inside lol).

If Tyson can't stop Ali inside six, he's inside his own nightmare. By his own confession, Tyson struggled with longer fights. Ali stays away, stinging Tyson with the jab and dancing away, first four or five rounds. Tyson just getting more frustrated and wild.

As the fatigue begins to build up on Tyson, Ali would start planting his feet, throwing the straight right hand. I expect he would knock Tyson out certainly not later than nine.

Thing that really ****ed with Ali's head when it came to Frazier was that Frazier got more intense, and could go into deep water. Tyson was not going to do that to Ali.

Tyson is the perfect bull for Ali's matador. If Ali was around, prime, in 1986/88, none of the Tyson nut huggers would have anything to wet themselves over.

Eh? How does this logic work?

This fight isn't going to finish on points, and severely doubt that it would go ten, never mind twelve or fifteen.

ali clearly... the complete team of tyson(rooney, jose torres, patterson, damato, jacob) all them picked ali.. tyson could not stop guys like tucker, tillis, green or smith, ali would frustrate the hell of him. ali had a much tougher mind, it is they key factor, after of the round 5 , tyson would have been a little kid with the body of man facing a real man

it is funny because the tyson fans usually use the ignorant and absurd exmaple " frazier did beat ali so imagine that tyson would do him". they say that frazier was similar to tyson when they are talking about the fantasy fight tyson against ali, but when they are talking about tyson vs foreman they say that tyson was nothing like frazier haha dumb kids

Of all the fantasy fights i'd like to see, this one is the hardest to call imo. Both of these versions of these guys were on a different level. Arguably the two best HW versions of all time, but i think a prime Tyson eventually catches Clay most of the time. You could not finesse prime Tyson entirely and expect to win, but then again, of anyone in history Clay has the best shot to do that. They bang, even for just a minute, it's game over for Clay.

Tyson was always ALWAYS a head case. Ali would psyche Tyson out before the bell sounds and beat him to oblivion before stopping him. Even Tyson himself states Ali would beat him.. And he would.

The correct answer here is that Ali wins some, Tyson wins some. Ali wins greater than half the time, so Ali is the most likely answer, but obviously either could win.

Ali is the favorite here, but sometimes, maybe 35%, Tyson gets him. IMO

Ali of 67 has very little chance here,he didn't take better punch than he did in the 70's and Tyson was a master at cutting the ring off, what ppl fail to realize is Tyson had excellent footwork, quick feet himself,he would be 60's ali worst nightmare,a frazier like fighter in terms of relentlessness, with much better skills and chin.Ali of the 60's would eat left hooks from a better left hooker than Frazier was.How Ali is remotely favored here when vid evidence suggests otherwise is beyond me,each to his own but reality is Ali would lose no little than 4 out of 5 here.Ali was hit frequently ,his defense is overatted and a Tyson clean punch ends it quick before round 4.

The thinking is that Ali would frustrate him by sticking and moving, no? I agree with a lot of your points but I wouldn't go anywhere near as far as saying that Ali had little chance.

The problem is no one frustrated Tyson he punished you and if you were still standing he fought at his opponents pace usually.Ali would need a knockout after mid rounds and Tyson in his prime never was, added that 60's Ali was far from a power puncher. One can use Tillis but that was only a ten round fight that wasn't even close, and we have the Cooper fight in comparison.I don't see Ali evading a guy who only needs one punch for 10/12 or 15 rounds..Tysons speed would be something Ali wouldn't know how to handle as he was known to be much faster than anyone in his day.
