He's 30 years old, he needs to get the big fights now. Hopefully garcia in september and he wins that, move up to 147 and go after may.

He's a class act. The Judah fight was real close but he beat Alexander imo and since then he has came on leaps and bounds.

The fight last night against Peterson was the culmination of the development of Matthysse since the Judah fight, improving almost every facet of his game, he is a danger for any fighter in the 140-147 mix.

You have to remember he made a significant jump in level in opponents when he faced Judah. I also think the way he dealt with Ajose was really impressive, I think Ajose gives most 140 lbers a tough night, Matthysse took him apart.

I would heavily favour him over Garcia but the one thing I noticed is if he tries to swing for the fences punches against Garcia he is in big trouble, Garcia has great natural skills and his left hook will be a danger punch in that fight but I would imagine that's the one thing he will tidy up.

Like someone said earlier in the thread, he is the type of fighter that will always be slightly overrated because he is a massive puncher but I believe he is improving his all round game as well (more feints, variation in his punch combinations, not falling in love with his power)

Malignaggi said it when comparing him to Julian Jackson that at least Jackson had shaky whiskers to even it out, LMM will be a tough out for anyone for the forseeable future.

A little overhyped. Seems to have incredible punching power (unlike Maidana whos power is a little overplayed), and he is very accurate and deceiving, because he never looks particularly skilled or fast but clearly he has natural timing and good ability.

But there is no guarantee he smashes Garcia to bits etc which is a little knee jerk at this stage. Judah and Alexander did well against him, if you can take a shot and got skill you're in with a chance, and Garcia is a very good puncher too. That fight is no forgone conclusion, Peterson, Ajose and Alexander really aren't punches, and Zab's a different fighter to the young gunslinger he once was, so Garcia will check Matthyse's durability too, there are two sides to that coin.

  4. Garcia is a puncher as well

And against Judah looked physically strong as

I have actually gone from being a doubter with Garcia to a real believer

If the fight was announced as expected I would tentatively go for Garcia

  5. The mother****er has dropped everybody he's ever fought, i keep saying it, he has that once in a generation type power. He'll destroy everybody at 140/147 bar Mayweather and even then i think it'd be Floyd's toughest fight.

His only losses are two close decisions to elite fighters who i thought he actually beat and in both fights he only lost because of slow starts, he has since fixed that problem. Since then he's been on a killing spree, Soto was one tough ******* never stopped but got blitzed, Ajose undefeated and useful battered and stopped, Dallas was decent but got executed and PEDerson is top class and he too got destroyed.

Garcia will be smashed silly in September and if Khans stupid enough he'll get it in December.

Garcia vs Matthysse is mouthwatering. Two world class boxers at the top of the toughest division in boxing. I'm a fan of both, great fighters.

    Overhyped?

    Geez go kill yourself.

Can he be beaten? Yes... Does Khan or Garcia do that? NO!

It'd be interesting if Garcia and Matthysse landed with left hooks at the same time like last night.

I think he's the real thing. Of course that's there to be argued but if you are a real fan of boxing, you'll recognise that he's undefeated and has beaten some really top notch fighters. He is more than just a slugger too- of course his huge power makes him the fighter he is but I also think he is mentally a top fighter in tge way he approaches fights.

Last night may have been the coming out party for people who haven't seen him before but believe me, he's been world class for a while.

He's the real deal, one thing about him which is underrated is his foot speed, the guy can lunge in with left hooks then quickly set his feet back again and get out of the way of your punches, alot of the times he waits for you to stop throwing a combo and then throws a lunging left hook
He beats anyone at 140 atm and probably all of 147 apart from Mayweather
Marquez would be a hard fight for him though

  13. I say he could be overhyped because his record although impressive adds up to Peterson, ajose, sotto,Dallas jnr and 2 losses disputed to Judah and Alexander

That for me isn't proof enough that he would beat 'everyone but floyd' as several people have mentioned

    That means pacquiao,Bradley,Marquez and others

For me he still has a long way to go to prove that, people getting excited is good but at elite level a big puncher comes up against a whole new set of problems

Not sure why all of a sudden people are foaming at the mouth, Matthysse has been the most dangerous fighter in boxing for the past 3 years. Its clear a clean Peterson is not the juiced up fighter who took Khan to war.
