who wins: maidana vs matthysse

Both can take a punch, both can punch, Matthysse has better defense and throws his punches more straight. Maidana has been tested and fought through adversity [Ortiz knock downs, Khan 1st round KD to the body] and came back to win the Ortiz fight and almost beat Khan in a FOTY. Matthysse hasn't fought through adversity yet, despite his loss to Judah.

Matthysse's heart and recoverability has a question mark next to it. Maidana has a 100 next to his.

The winner...i'm not sure. I think they secretly love each other, they probably would have too much respect and not go all out. Despite that, it probably still ends in KO. I'm just not sure, Maidana is more tested at the top level, so i'd lean towards him.

Although Matthysse's aggressive style makes it easier for Maidana to hit him Maidana has no defense and only basic punches, i think Matthysse would stop him on a body shot, if not it will just be a beat down where Maidana gets knocked down 3 or 4 times then ref stops it from accumulation

Maidana tends to gas badly aswell, look at the Karass fight it was at a high pace then he took rounds off he couldnt afford to do that against Lucas, cant see how he wins

 

Matthysse would get sweet revenge on Maidana. If Maidana doesn't get dominated it won't go past 5 rounds. After a valiant effort and Ko of the year, they embrace and become buds again.

 

Damn, love the pics. ****, I wish this site showed them instead of me having to click them all. Anyways, I go for Maidana because of his resume. Doesn't Maidana look bigger than Matthysse in those picks?

 

Maidana has power and can box, he's improved a lot since he moved up to 147 and works with nacho Bernstein. He'll be able to mitigate matthysse power shots and outbox him intelligently. Matthysse just loads up and throws wild punches, it works for him because he has crazy power. How many times did he end up off balance almost falling over throwing those wild punches? If you want to bang toe to toe with matthysse you will lose, if you box him use the jab and earn some respect to keep him off of you. I know easier said then done, I pick maidana by late stoppage.

 

for me, matthysse via late KO.. maidana has a punchers chance though.

the fight i would like to see matthysse is against the late Edwin Valero..

 

Gonna go with Maidana, he's already been in with more experienced guys

 

Mathysse is the better technician, probably has the slightly better chin, Maidana is a bit less predictable (meaning wild to his benefit), and IMO more heavy handed, or at least as heavy handed. The fight would no doubt end up on the inside, I think Mathysse has more skill there, but many of his opponents try to outbox him, Maidana has the right stature to land his shots to the body and head. I favor Lucas but don't count Marcos out. Despite his stamina issues, he's fought through such adversity.

Maidana is 3-0-1 against him in the amateurs, but I'll go with Matthysse now... even taking the blind leap of faith that Matthysse would move up in weight well enough.
