Saw Iron Mike lose Douglas of all people, and was in denial for a couple of days after.
Saw Marvellous Marvin "lose" to SRL and I'm still in denial... Still see it as a Hagler win. :!:
Saw LL lose to Rahman and the Atomic Bull and I was happy to see him turn things around in the rematches.
Saw Froch wreck Bute, and that didn't hurt nearly as much as the other 3 examples.

 

watching mike tyson lose to buster douglas was heart rending

 

David Tua getting schooled by Lennox Lewis. Tua is has been my favorite fighter for years, and watching Lewis dismantle him pretty easily was hard to watch. Everytime one of those left hooks flew at Lewis' face my heart would fill with hope and every one that whiffed by missing Lewis' chin my heart would sink. Tua looked beat and frustrated at the end of that fight. It was hard to watch.

Worse than that for me though was Tua's loss to Monte Barret. From pretty much the start of the fight my stomach sunk. Tua looked pathetic, slow, plodding, not throwing punches. He didnt look like he was even trying.

At the end of the fight when he finally started throwing, caught Monte, and busted his jaw, I was literally jumping up and down ( 3 in the morning PST btw)...

...but somehow, out of all the times Monte doesnt get up, he gets up. Tua comes at him to finish him guns blazing, but Monte manages to avoid Tua for the last 10-15 seconds and won an easy decision.

I stayed up all night for that fight which lasted until after 4am and had to leave for work at 7. I have to admit, I was more emotional at work, which was made worse because I was dead tired. I dont even think I ate that day lol.

I've don't think I've ever been more upset about any fight. Mainly because I expected a Monte to be a quick knockouck for Tua, and to shut people up about their previous fight which ended up as a draw but the Tua I saw for the first 9 or 10 rounds of that fight wasn't the Tua I expected.

Other significant mentions:

Tyson vs Holyfield 1: I was young when this fight happened but I was a Tyson fan as a kid. I remember how pissed off I was that the referee let Holyfield get away with constantly clinching like every 2 seconds... yes if your tired or hurt I understand you should clinch but Holyfield was neither... he was constantly clinching because He didnt want to get caught inside. I understand he had a good plan and he did what he had to to win the fight but I lost all respect for Holyfield because he was fighting like a ***** and clinching to the point that I would call it a total exploitation. He was warned over and over to stop clinching but the ref never took a point or anything.

Hagler vs Sugar ray: Another fight when I was young... I was a Hagler fan. I thought Hagler won (landing more meaningful shots), but I was like 14 years old so I don't know. I just hated how sugar Ray would get into a corner, then throw a flurry of mosquito jabs and run away. Even as a kid I refused to count most of his punches... all flash and no lead behind them.

 

Jermain Taylor getting KTFO against Pavlik, Froch and Abraham was hard to watch. I will never ever watch those fights again.

When Floyd outboxed Shane in such dominating fashion after Sugar nearly knocking him out with just 1 punch .

I just kept thinking to myself if only he fought Shane back in 06 . Very likely would have seen Floyd laid out in that 2nd rnd .

 

Nah, my dad doesn't even care, guys happy that his ancestors enslaved and colonized Mexico with only a few hundred men and taught them Spanish and how to be semi civilized. Although you still have Mexican mother ****ers beheading people on the internet, so not much has really changed.

 

Felt bad everytime they screwed over Whitaker. When Trinidad lost to Bhop, I took it hard. Also when Jones got smashed by Tarver, when Evander got smashed by Toney, and when they screwed over Lewis in the Holyfield fight.

 

No I do give a pass to boxing fans over this as compare to other sports. Because in boxing, it's just one guy going into the ring. It's the most unique sport in that everything is on the line with that one guy. A favorite 'team' is more of an entity... numerous faces... you just don't get as emotionally attached to a team the way you can to a boxer. Also Manchester United losing badly does not equate to Wayne Rooney getting punched in the face till he gets knocked out............ in boxing when your favorite fighter loses it's likely he took a lot of punishment in the process (or a big KO)
It's perfectly understandable how you can become emotionally attached to a person that have no connection with you.

Shame Ray couldn't dish out similar punishment.

 

Marquez losing to Pacquiao in the third fight broke my heart

 

I'll start by being a but pedantic - Hagler lost his "0" a while before facing Leonard, against Bobby Watts.

Watching Tito lose to Hopkins, Roy being ko'd by Tarver and Morales losing to Pac all hurt. Watching JMM fight Pacquiao three times without being given a victory was really ****ing painful though - it felt like it was never going to happen.

 

One of the saddest things I ever saw in boxing was Roy Jones celebrating going the distance with Tarver as if he had just gone 50-0.
And things only got worse from there.:-(
