Don't particularly think theirs a limited amount of time left for Froch. I would imagine at some point Froch will have to fight a mandatory defense of his IBF, but there isn't one at the moment with Stephenson moving up in weight. From a legacy standpoint he should either try to avenge his loss to Ward, or move up to light heavyweight and go after Dawson. A large part of how he is remembered, depends on his establishing himself as the #1 fighter in one division or another.
