It's really a shame Froch doesn't have a bigger UK fanbase

Yeah. His demeanour certainly hasn't given off the impression to the British public that he's a cool guy

On this note, some quick questions for the UK posters:

Does aligning yourself with one football franchise ever bring much backlash from fans of other teams? Or would that be a good thing as long as they watched the fights, too? I know the rivalries over there can be pretty fierce.

Boxing isn't a mainstream sport anymore.Only Hatton has crfossed over oin recent years.Froch is now the #1 attraction over here and if it doesn't seem huge it's because boxing isn't huge anymore.

Nonsense. He was almost completely unknown then.Calzaghe fans slated him for using Joe's name to get attention. Now Joe says he understands why Carl did it,and Cleverly does it now with Froch.
UK fans did not "hate" him.He was considered an exciting B level fighter with flaws that made for good scraps amongst hardcore fans

My city has the deepest rivalry of them all Jeff. There's the minority, the good Catholic people who were supressed and subjected to horrific prejudice that is only now starting to get a bit better.
And you have them, the Rangers fans with their rancid stench of Scottish Protestantism and corruption that have destroyed our game.

One or two of them are OK if you really dig deep enough though.:yep

I'd have agreed with this statement up until this fight.
Only boxing fans knew who he was before he fought Pascal.
Due to the Pascal & Taylor fights which were both screened on ITV (although the Taylor fight only on delay) he gained some popularity and exposure with general sports fans, although not the general public.

Then despite his impressive performances, as a result of a lack of terrestrial tv exposure a lot of the general sports fans forgot about him and it was mainly boxing fans who took note of him again, until the Bute fight. That's when the Sky hype machine started to get rolling a bit, the Mack fight helped and as this fight is PPV they've gone into overdrive and I think even a few people with little sporting interest know about this Kessler fight, the general sports fan certainly knows very well.

Even when I was back in Ireland last week some mates who are very casual sports fans started talking about it, I was so shocked I was looking at them like they'd two heads !
So if Froch can win and stay on Sky ppv, I'm sure he'll be escalated to a household name with the general public.

Froch has long been insecure of his small fan base relative to Calzaghe, which is why Froch is practically in love with Calzaghe.
