I don't think I've ever seen Carl as hyped up as this, even earlier in the week he seemed agitated. Rob McCrackenmade it known about peaking too early. Eddie said yesterday it was like a switch that went of and Carl is going nuts to just get in the ring and is now not a nice person to be around. This was two days before fight night. All the stuff with Groves in the week, all the stuff about wanting to kill Mikkel Kessler if he has to. Where Carl looks clearly nervous and raring to go, Mikkel seems calmness personified. The pressures is off for the Dane to a certain extent. "Been here and done it before." Beat Carl in Denmark. Faced Calzaghe in the lions den. Kessler isn't fazed. So my question is this, is this agitated behavior and eagerness all negative? Is it a sign of the moment getting to Carl? Or can even positives be drawn from Carl's eagerness for this fight? Do you think it will effect Carl on fight night? In terms of coming in reckless and careless? Or do you think he will be a better fighter because of it? Or do you maybe even think its just a poker face for the cameras? What do you think?
Its an interesting one given the PPV status of the fight. Reckon Carl is well aware of his need to hype this up however / whenever he can but may have just stepped over the mark this week - I just hope Carl is bluffing us all and will be mentally ready for the fight rather than the circus around it
Have noticed Hearn and Froch stating that this will be the biggest crowd and atmosphere 'both' fighters will have fought in front of and so were making a big play of being first in the ring on the night. It will indeed be the biggest crowd Froch has fought in front of but they seem to be ignoring the fact that Kessler has boxed in front of a crowd nearly 3 times as big in the past. Kessler certainly seems to be taking things in his stride more up to now.
Yes, I think he has a little bit. But no big deal; I don't think he'll come in flat tomorrow night and I don't think it will make any significant difference to the final outcome.
I guess we'll find out tomorrow night, however it seemed he was a bit too passive in the early rounds of the first fight and allowed Kessler to dictate the pace, so going in there charged up could work in his favour as long as he can do 12 hard rounds which has never been a problem in the past.
He's definitely going to perform better than he did in the first fight. That isn't in doubt, imo. The question is whether Kessler will perform better and given how much better Froch will perform, he will win or not.
He's been doing 15 rounds in the gym and fighting 3 opponents over the 15 rounds. There is no doubting Froch's stamina, he will last and go the distance if need be. But if he is nervous and he is reckless on fight night, Kessler can dig. Nobody is indestructible as tough as Froch is. Froch is somewhat of a veteran in world title fights and vastly experienced. So I don't expect him to come in stupid but it CAN happen and it has done in the past. It only takes one. Will Froch be mad enough to give him it? Froch is bound to say he is excited for the fight, he kind of has to, and has to play it down. But as we saw with Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. It can change in the blink of an eye. It really can. Nobody expected that, and it happened. Pacquiao came rushing in with something to prove. I'm hoping Froch doesn't repeat that and sticks to boxing, if he does he'll win the fight on points and set the record straight.
I would have said no based on Froch's behaviour, but some of his other comments that have been missed in all the furore about the kill comment and everything else make me think he has. Froch stated he has done nearly 200 rounds of open sparring and 70 rounds of technical sparring. That's too much, especially for someone like Froch who won't hold back. He also mentioned he had a 10 round fight with Tony Bellew last week, albeit with big gloves and headguards. But Froch said afterwards "I felt like I'd already boxed."
