Why is Floyd Mayweather Jr. not respected by most like Tyson or B-Hop?

He doesn't need the respect of every day people. He just needs it from his peers/ fellow boxers.

 

People just tend to hate people on top! Trsut me when Hopkins beat Trindad and DLH, people didnt respect Hopkins, they Hated him!! It only took him manu many years till people finally realized that he one of the ATG's.

At this point Mayweather is still in the game, and hes just so good people want to see him fail. When he retires then people will give him alot of respect and realize we probably wont see antoehr like him for a long long time.

Think about this. Right now theres still a TON of Lebron James haters!! Why??? Maybe if hes going against your team u can root against him but at the end of the day you have to realize hes the best right now and couold possibly be one of the best if not thee best ever. so guess what? People just hating on him, I never get it. thats just what life is, nobody agree 100% on anything, you can only get Majority

 

it's not really a hood thing.i don't think louis or ali came up the "hood" way.it's more about floyd talks $hit,backs it up and people wanna see him humbled.ali went through the same thing and when frazier beat him people were sad.

 

What the hell does being a street dude have to do with boxing? i mean seriously this is a sport not a damn block party...he is highly respected he sells more then Hopkins,has more people at his fights then Hopkins. He had a longer better career then Tyson,had enough sense not to do drugs and took care of himself.not sure what the hell you are talking about but Floyd is highly respected as a boxer like he should be

 

Floyd beat a lot of fan's idols.

 

Not sure about Tyson, but Hopkins routinely acknowledges Floyd as the best fighter around and has even marveled at his ring I.Q. and defensive capabilities.

Because unlike Hopkins he's polarizing and unlike Tyson he's not retired.

 

What type of respect is he speaking of? If he's talking about street cred, Floyd never had to live that sort of life. He basically latched off of 50 Cent and used his persona to build a fan base.

Professionally, though? Few are respected more by their peers.

Look at Hopkins at his age, he's fighting MUCH better opposition than Floyd is. Fact!

Tyson captured the publics imagination by DESTROYING people. Floyd doesn't do that.

 

Hopkins is cherry-picking just like Floyd is. He just gets a pass because he's damn near 50, and that's okay.

Tyson was ridiculed as a savage monster throughout his prime and is more respected now that he's mellowed out.

 

Tyson was a fantastic Boxer. His skillset was awesome.

B-Hop has fought Dawson, Pascal, Cloud... He's done more within the last 3 years than Foyd has done in twice that time. And it's a better resume than Floyd's.

 

He holds zero victories over Dawson and Pascal and Cloud are essentially the same fighter.
