I don't pretend to be an expert on boxing and hate being a snob but I hate talking boxing with 'casuals' These are a few gems from work colleagues and friends, some are repeated so often I swear they have become urban legend 'Bruno nearly knocked Tyson out in that fight' 'Calzaghe was the best boxer of all time' 'Tyson would easily beat Ali,have you actually seen Tyson fight' But best of all about hattons return, which opponent he would face 'They will probably put him in with that Audley Harrison to start with' to which I replied only if Audley loses about 7 stone first, when they came back with 'Yeah but Ricky would still win anyway, any of us could get in a ring and beat harrison' I would happily argue with all of the above but lack the patience and care Anybody else got any to share
I got this friend or a friend who is a semi hardcore boxing fan. Doesn't post on forums but watches most boxing on tv, has boxnation, get hyped for big fights. He has a proper short temper and can't take a joke and can't take his drink. One time when we was on a night out to wind him up I told him Frank Bruno was the best ever British boxer and he went ****ing mental until a bouncer threw him out the club.
Bruno had power But the problem is iron mike then sparked him,and then a few years later did it all again As for the Ali-Tyson argument that seems to be a huge debate amongst casuals Who probably don't consider anyone else in history to be remotely as good,my argument is always look at who Ali fought Frazier,Liston, foreman, norton, spinks and a succession of very good heavys late 60s and early 70s compared to tysons opposition and the answer is always that Tyson fought the same standard.it drives me mad
Winds me up when casuals talk bout boxing, especially when the try argue with yu lik they know better when they watch about 3 fights a year. Cheeky ****s.
to be fair that era of ali will never ever be repeated and guys like norton would have been champ in tysons era no doubt. tyson though at young age did demolish everyone and if had stayed out of trouble who knows what we would have learnt. I just hope noone ever says to me berbick beat ali and tyson beat berbick so tyson must be better.i think i would cry lol
Harrison vs Hatton is a good match up I'd favour Audley but if he decides to not punch he could get stopped
Tyson generally being considered the best or second best heavy of all time after Ali is a common one. He's not even top 10!
The funny thing is most people wouldn't talk about a sport they didn't know. I enjoy watching most sports but don't say stupid **** and argue with people who know the sport better than me. I don't sit down and say Tiger Woods is the GOAT because I have no idea if thats true or not but because it involves punching every male seems to think their opinion is valid.
One of my mates tried telling me that Prince Naseem beat Calzaghe... He got mixed up with Calvo...twat.
Yeah and even worse there is a common belief that anyone can box, without any technical or physical training I avoid these conversations like the plague
I remember talking to security guard at my work about Tyson v lewis, telling him that Tyson has a small punchers chance but that the likelihood is of a lewis victory Never forget his response. Makes me smile whne i think about it because i wanted it to be true ''Shut up. Tyson will bang him up blood, are you mad?''
