I put this in a different thread

I always want to see guys try to box Floyd yet they all submit to the Castillo method

My point is they are working with outdated technology, when the Niners played the Ravens in the Super Bowl did they watch the one from a decade ago? No probably not

Every 24-7 show has the guy watching Castillo and saying Im gonna do this Im gonna do that acting like Floyd hasnt learned

Common wisdom tells us Floyd is susceptible early and as the fight goes doors shut, Richardson basically emphasized this when Mosley fought Mayweather. They had a set up, it worked, but it didnt end the fight and Floyd took it away

So in ways Floyd can be susceptible to certain well set up punches, the problem is they rarely get a second chance. Also when guys come right for Floyd like Judah and Guerrero who had plenty of early success they become predictable because they show Floyd everything early

What if an opponent disguised themselves, fought a slow pace and did not pressure. What if they made Floyd play lead and expose himself to counters? Sounds crazy but whats crazy is doing what the 44 guys did before you and suffering the same fate. Canelo may be a big man but pressure may not be his best option

Is Canelo designed to be a great pressure guy? Suspect stamina and low punch output hardly get the job done as a pressure fighter

He did outbox Trout in a fight like this one where it was supposed to be slick boxer vs brawler. Canelo turned the trick on us by boxing. The question for me is how many quiet rounds will the judges give Canelo. Can Canelo really win by boxing on the cards.

If Canelo moves and counters Floyd could he walk Floyd into a right similar to the one Trout got caught with.

I think this fight is Floyd all the way but maybe Canelo can come out smart, measure Floyd and set him up for something

The way to beat Floyd is to mix up your way of fighting, being adaptable and not letting him get into a rhythm. If Canelo makes the fight a chess match for the whole 12 rounds, unless he lands a knock out blow, which I doubt, then I really don't like his chances. Mayweather will adapt to his style, and counter him to death.

Now if he can mix up his approach from round to round, one round go in and make it a war, use his physical advantages, the next box behind the jab, not let Mayweather adapt to what he's doing, that's his best chance. I seriously doubt he has the ability to do it and most importantly be consistent with it, but we will find out soon enough

Whats funny is the Castillo fight was so long ago, Floyd has matured so much, and Floyd is one of the smartest guys out there he learned from that night and he knows its the fight people cite so he kind of knows how guys try to approach him

People on here say you cant outbox Floyd you cant counter Floyd because he is the best counter puncher

my question is how does being a great counter puncher make Floyd impossible to counter punch? By pressuring Floyd arent you playing into his strongest part of his game

Canelo made Trout (the boxer) come after him and made Trout pay, now Canelo probably couldnt do the same vs Floyd and probably wouldnt win the tight rounds he did vs Trout

the problem with floyd is outside the one fight he hasnt stumbled hes barely struggled, guys like Cotto have showed that they could make it a tough night for Floyd but not win many rounds or threaten to win the fight

This for me makes it so hard to put together a working strategy because Floyd has never shown us a way to consistently take rounds off of him and beat him, he was in a lot of trouble vs Shane but that was a perfect set up probably concocted by spending hours watching fight footage

Canelo is in for a real test but he should try to fight smart

Canelo doesn't have the ring IQ of Marquez, so you can forget about him out boxing Mayweather. He is going to have to pressure Mayweather and unload on him. If you wait for Mayweather to make a mistake then you going to be getting peppered all night. You have to create your openings with Mayweather, not try to box with him. Just like Roy Jones said one time, you box a brawler and you brawl a boxer.

Give me one example where(gif or video) or brake it down for me what Floyd does that makes you believe Canelo can counter him, JMM with his amazing timing and countering could not land ****, Canelo must use his size cause he isnt even close in skill department. Seriously take your time and find me some video or gif that can show me where are those mistakes that will open Floyd to counters from Canelo, all of a sudden Canelo is master boxer and counterpuncher:verysad

Actually I think its the other way around, his post is the most logical and likely the out come of how this fight un folds. you dont just rush an experienced fighter like Floyd the way your insisting he does not when your an undefeated rising star yourself you stick to a solid game plan and take advantage of whats there why wouldnt you give yourself the best possible chance to win?

Brawling with Floyd isnt going to work we have been down that road plenty of times, who gave Floyd his toughest fights?
    Castillo
    Cotto
    Delahoya
and all did so by not brawling with him they applied intelligent pressure and boxed in spots. To me that is the formula if you want to beat Mayweather.

Now a chess match doesnt mean go tit for tat with him, Saul can still elect to pressure him run off his shots score step around then make Floyd come to him as he reverts back to boxing....

that would be hard to find because nobody has really tried it

Cotto, Ortiz, Mosely and the majority of his opponents in the 2000s just tried to be "the big guy" and use their size and pressure to win and it hasnt ever worked

Canelo didn't really win that Trout fight. He did better than many expected but those scorecards were bull****. Canelo doesn't have the hand speed or foot speed to box with Floyd. But he has such a size and power advantage that he would be a fool not to utilize it.

Canelo beat that ****er clear as day give it a god damn rest already he had put it on Trout so bad that even Trout during the post fight interview had no choice but to admit and accept defeat.

:patsch So for you guys pressure=rushing and hoping for lucky punch:huh
Your master plan is for Canelo to wait for Floyds mistakes(and he is known to make mistakes:lol:) and capitalize on them. Mark my words if he makes it a chess match and waits for Floyds to be wide open so he can land he will lose really wide UD.
Where did post he needs to brawl:huh Canelo needs to pressure him not make it "chess match" for him to win chess match he needs to be better technically and outsmart Floyd which he can not do. If he waits for Floyd and does not apply pressure it will not be competitive.
one think Canelo has on those guys is even more size and if he doesnt pressure Floyd he doesnt use one of his advantages.

Canelo needs to use smart aggression, switching from the attacker to counter puncher in each individual round... If he waits on Floyd and just tries to outbox him he'll end up like Marquez. He needs to catch Floyd with a punch setup and planned during training like Mosley did, and pray it KTFO Floyd. Trying to box will end in Marquez results.. Trying to pressure will end in Guerrero/Hatton results.

I can't see him winning the decision if it goes 12. He needs to pray Floyd hurts his hand or he KO's him with a setup punch.

For Canelos sake I hope not. I know pressure fighting has not work against Floyd and more than likely still won't since we discovered his legs are not gone. But if he is going to win in spurts he will have to pressure Floyd.

if you understood boxing you would understand what Bigbone and I are talking about. you dont just wait for Floyd to make mistakes and yes you can do this while boxing.

You create opportunities and exploit them, head feints shoulder feints and counters. You seem to think that Canelo should use his size here and maul Floyd I dont think after 44 fights we have seen any outcome which that style prevailed.... Did we see any of that work for Hatton or DLH or Castillo? nope we sure as **** didnt.

So how do you beat Floyd? Obviously he can fight like that in his sleep so you better find another way, meaning you have to take advantage of his age and your size but that doesnt mean lean on him tie him up make it ugly.

That means dont follow Floyd cut the ring off when you score move the **** out of the way invite Floyd to follow you, head feint the man then counter him as he misses.

Work the body the man is 36, mid way through you switch gears make him come to you as you continue to box and look for counters. the last three rounds thats were you step it up in terms of heavy pressure but you want that to be intelligent pressure by then if you stuck to your game plan you have a faded Floyd, who is taking more risk because Floyd is either behind or the fight is just too close.

and that is where you look to catch Floyd...
